Who will be remembered as the better overall MMA fighter Nate Diaz or Gilbert Melendez?

-Gilbert Melendez : Currently 22-5, only been finished once in his career to Pettis, former Strikeforce LW Kingpin, the 1st WEC champion, The greatest trilogy outside the UFC with Josh Thompson, Good Boxer with Excellent Grappling.

Notable Wins: Josh Thompson X2, Diego Sanchez, Aoki, Masvidal, Tetsuji Kato, Kawajiri X2, Guida, Ishida

-Nate Diaz : Currently 20-10, only been stopped twice (Hermes Franca and Josh Thompson), 7 times FOTN, 5 times SOTN, TUF season 5 winner, 1st person to finish Jim Miller, and Killer of the King on 11 days notice.

Notable Wins: Mcgregor, Michael Johnson, Gray Maynard, Jim Miller, Gomi, Cowboy, Melvin

Personally I think Nate fought tougher competition during their respected careers but I believe Gil is a better overall fighter who would have won some of the fights that Nate lost against (Gray the 1st time, Joe Daddy, Guida, Franca), but at the end of the day Nate will be he bigger name solely on the Mcgregor fight.

There are no better fighters than the Diaz brothers.

diaz
for some reason Melendez isn't very remarkable, despite his skillset

How about the one that has more than 1 win in the octagon?

yeah , the fact that Melendez was caught cheating will make it tuf to erase it from his great career

Thats true but when Nate was losing 5 out of 8 from 2009-2011, Gil was undefeated beating Josh Thompson, Aoki, Kawajiri and Masvidal. Gil from 2009 isnt losing to Joe Daddy who was 1-3 going into that fight or Gray Maynard or Guida who just beat Danzig and Samy Schiavo.

You forgot to mention Giblert's PED usage

Nate Diaz is the better fighter.

Gilbert Melendez has a Strikeforce championship.

Thread closed.

Nate, but Gilbert has had some great battles as well, though him fighting outside the UFC for so long will diminish his career in many peoples eyes, also the failed drug test doesn't help either.

But Gilbert Melendez has a strong top game which is something Nate Diaz has often struggled with. I would bet on GM via decision unless Nate jabbed him to death.

nate has recognized gil as the better fighter in post fight speeches . still doesn't mean he will be remembered better.

Well, I doubt Diaz would have gassed out against Alvarez too

Fighter's such as Frankie Edgar, Eddie Alvarez or Gilbert Melendez have physically demanding styles of fighting. They're not always easy on the eye but they're physically demanding. Nate however likes to plant his feet and jab to high heaven and mix in those Stockton slaps too. That approach isn't particularly going to need too much energy unless he does so at a high tempo.

I agree but if Nate's more conservative approach works out for him then there's nothing to complain about
