When did people forget that Nate Diaz is a mediocre fighter? (6 - 6 in last 12 fights)

I'm being rhetorical, of course - people forgot during the Conor fights because the UFC managed to market him as a beast. GSP is going to steamroller Nate - doesn't anyone remember the ass-whooping RDA gave Nate - I mean total domination - as well as Benson Henderson and Josh Thompson - imagine what GSP will do...it's THE definition of a money fight.

It's being said over and over, but this is short term thinking by the UFC...they're not building up and promoting genuine talent because they're focused on whoever sells - GSP Diaz is just not a compelling fight!

It's mostly Conor fanboys who try to pump Nate up like he is an all time great. I'm a fan of Nate but he has a very limited skillset and there's a reason he got his ass handed to him when he fought the top LWs of the world (Bendo, Thompson, RDA).

Losing to better fighters does not make you mediocre, it means you lose to some fighters while beating others than many consider better than you. If losing a fight makes you mediocre, than MMA is a shitfest

If Nate is mediocre what does that make the guys he beat?

UFC doesn't want to expose Conor.

Who the fuck wanted this squashmatch???

Knowledgeable fans didn’t forget. It’s only Convict fans that think he’s some super fighter.

Clay Fucking Guida beat him, ffs. I love Guida, but come on.

This stuff with GSP is all probably bullshit anyway. He would fucking destroy Nate.

I haven't seen many people saying that Nate is this Conor-like superman. Not even Conor fans. He's a good fighter, solid UFC-material, nothing more, nothing less.

Very limited skill set? He has elite boxing, cardio, chin and jiu jitsu lol. His lack of game planning, wrestling and ability to absorb leg kicks make him match up dependent but he has a very solid skill set.

first thing I did when I read your title was assume you are a noob but you’re not so how can you call Nate “mediocre” ?!

6-6 ? Did you mean 6'6" ? Yeah, I don't know since, he was definitely 6'6" and 230 lbs during Conor fights, don't know why they list him at 6'0" or something like that

When he beat the greatest fighter who ever lived, Conor McGregor.

He might be disgustingly overrated and overhyped but far from mediocre. Been in ufc for over a decade now fighting mostly elite fighters

Get out here with your facts.

But seriously you're right.

GSP is quite possibly the GOAT skill-wise, but it's really disappointing how he has talked about "legacy" fights but completely shied away from anything of the sort after his fights with Hughes and Penn early in his career.

He and Anderson Silva had ridiculously long streaks of title defenses at the same time in adjacent weigh classes, but GSP steadfastly refused to fight Silva time and again.

When Hendricks decisively beat him, GSP chose to retire on the judges' robbery instead of rematching Hendricks.

Then he comes back and talks about how belts are meaningless and he wants to fight the best fighters, and proceeds to fight an outside the Top 10 middleweight just because he has a belt.

There are several "legacy" fights for GSP out there: Woodley, Khabib, Askren, Conor. But this guy wants to fight Nate "journeyman" Diaz. Despicable.

Go rewatch his fights, entertaining as hell. Comes to fight and puts on a show when it matters, pull your head out bro he has only really lost to elite wrestlers.

Josh kicked his head off once though

So you didn't see a lot. Many people, especially new fans who came with Conor, bought this narrative of Diaz being an elite fighter who cut some insane amount of weight to make 170. I've seen shitload comments like these on fb, I've met people in real life who were trying to persuade that it's true. Even on sherdog I've seen many people supporting this claim.

Conor told everyone Nate is a monster and the sheep believed him.
Next thing you know they'll be saying that Duffy is world champ. :D
And Sitenkov is better than Khabib. :D

I agree it's a bad matchup for Nate. But, Nate always dangerous enough to make a fight interesting. He doesn't have the best record, but he's very durable and can take an ass whoopin and still win. I'm 90% leaning towards GSP, but I'll never count nate out 100%.

That's fair enough. Wasn't my impression though (that a significant number of people thought of Nate as being great).
