When did GSP surpass Silva?

Is this because of the two Weidman fights and gsp winning a second belt?
first it started off with that cribs type video where he slipped and bottles of what appeared to be roids were in the background. Then it was confirmed when he pissed hot for roids after an underwhelming dance contest with nick diaz following by a mostly losing streak. He tarnished his own legacy.

GSP was never busted for roid cheating and he never went on a legacy destroying losing streak. Some may counter argue that slump at the end of his career doesn't count cause he was post 40... but you could counter argue with showing them randy winning multiple belts at 1000 years old and multiple other examples of fighters being title threats or even winning the belt post 40, while Anderson was a can by that age

I have gsp over Silva on princle of having gotten caught with peds in him. He did break his leg though which earns him a bit of slack in the form of empathy unlike other cheaters.

They were champs literally at the same time and Silva always was over GSP in the pound for pound rankings.

Now I see ppl taking GSP over Silva all time.

You answered it.

At the time Silva was more impressive. In hindsight recency bias plays a big role

I try to evaluate fighters based on their achievements in and up to their prime and excuse the losses that are clearly due to aging...

But losing looks bad.

And losing to chumpy journeymen not great fighters ain't a great look for a guy trying to hold a very elite upper tier GOAT type spot.

Anderson is a weird one. It was obvious he stuck around for the checks and to fuck around and be a show off but he really didn't even seem to care about winning by the end. It's just a shitty look.

at the time people complained that Silva never faced a wrestler in his ufc run and when it was finally announced a lot of them saw Weidman as the favorite (Silva telling everytime that CW didn't deserve a ts was also pathetic).
meanwhile GSP faced every kind of fighters in his run and he beat them all.

after all those years a lot of people became softer with Silva.

He fought Sonnen 2x and Okami both of whom were known for wrestling.

CW was a wrestler that could strike though.

Silva definitely over stayed. Looking back one can see he was declining by the 1st Sonnen fight

But anyways GSP dod fight every style possible. The knock at the time is that he played too safe post Serra 1 and didnt go for finish like he used to

Hendo too

Silva and gsp have like equal resumes until silva loses to Weidman. After that its just so much more impressive to ko the champ and win a second belt. I dont give a shit who the champ was this isnt 1998 the ufc mw champ is and was a good fighter. Bisbing is a very good fighter who was a champ and got koed

The middleweight division was very shallow for most of Silva's run, unlike the shark tank welterweight was. Silva had time to beat up guys like James Irvin at 205 because of his lack of opponents at 185 while GSP was beating prime Fitch and Penn.
