...it sparks a melange of criticism from the most cynical and relatively new/uneducated fight fans.
"He/she's over the hill, they were never good, overrated, terrible camp, training wrong, need new coaches, etc"
When champions lose, or when anyone loses, they are left with options. Sit out and sulk, call it a career... or take that loss in stride and use it as fuel to improve upon their game.
We've seen both ends of the spectrum, but the ones we pay attention to are the ones who follow the latter.
Max Holloway was a very young talented fighter, who just happened to cross paths with a future champ champ, and another up and coming fighter. He could've complained and spent his time arguing with losers on twitter, but instead he got back on the horse and now he's wearing the strap.
UFC Calgary, we'll see three former champs still on that grind, still on that beast mode living out their dreams ... and we'll be tuning in to follow their journey.
I personally see the fight game that way. You're following the journey of someone pursuing a life goal...
How many of us are part of that .001% that chase their dreams to the fullest?
Realizing this myself makes the fight game even more amusing. Not to mention I like martial arts in general, the amount of intel we're able to see of a fighter's life just makes it that much more exciting.
I'm a Conor fan, but wayyy before that, I was a Jose fan and still am. Really looking forward to see where Jose's mind is at, where his skills are at.
Joanna, touted as invincible at a time, coming off of two losses... I'm not wasting any of my time talking shit about her. She's one of the most technical fighters on the roster and it's a thing of beauty.
Eddie. Maybe ya'll forgot, or just joined MMA later in life, but Eddie was involved in multiple fights that will be in the top 20 fights... ever. He's won titles after titles after titles... and he's still on it.
Souped for this card. Let's go!
