When Anderson would drop his hands and invite his opponent to punch him in the face….

That sh** is legend and was super effective at captivating an audience at the bar. I remember when Anderson would do this during a fight and everyone at the bar would just be glued to the tv screens. You could hear a pin drop.

Your bars went silent? It was the opposite for me, but you're right about the fact that when Silva fought, people weren't doing anything else, they were glued to the fight.

I went out a lot for Silva fights. You could hear audible "ooooOOHHHHs!!!" in the bar. People couldn't help it.

Never seen so many fans physically get nervous during a fight like when Silva would go Matrix mode.

Crazy thing is watching it back, a guy like Okami seemingly had no chance. Literally shook from the rip.

But watching it live as a Spider fan you are worried that that one shot would finally catch him.

Even when he first lost to Weidman, by that time I became numb to the nervousness from Anderson taunting. I thought for sure Anderson was gonna turn the fight around when he started taunting again.

Then even when he got koed by Weidman, as he started falling, I initially missed the punch that landed. For a split second I was thinking, "Anderson is taking this taunting thing too far". I couldn't believe what I saw.

Totally! I felt the same way when Weidman caught him. I didn’t actually realize that Silva got hurt initially. I thought he was still showboating lol. At that time Silva was the kind of fighter that, win or lose, it definitely wasn’t going to be boring.

I watched a few Anderson fights at BW3 with the boys, and they happened to be spaced out enough that it gave some interesting observations.

Early on in his run, the crowds were all about him. Loved the Matrix stuff, him doing the hand drop, etc.

In the middle there was still a lot of love, but some people were starting to dislike him and his "antics." They were a very vocal minority.

Last one I saw there was Weidman 1, and by then I felt like the only person there that was cheering for Anderson. Everyone else, or at least the distinct majority, were outright booing Anderson when he started doing his thing, and they went absolutely batshit joyous when Teh Chris landed on him.

That was a rough night for me lol. Anderson losing sucked, the whole place going happy crazy when he lost sucked, and I was the designated driver that night so the WHOLE ride home was a FJ full of drunken buddies giving me shit because one of my favs "bullshit antics finally caught up to him."

Good times lol

I just watched the fight and became a Weidman hater all over again.

IKR.

Like, he seems to be taking this a bit far ... oh.. fuck.. wait.

That's not right! Get up bro!!!

I remember when Forest fought Anderson.... everyone at the bar was like WTF!! how did he perfectly dodge all those punches and then knock him out with a jab.... Prime Anderson was phenomenal.

especially after Forest was toe to toe with Rashad and Rampage, and then a MW comes up to LHW and wipes the floor with Forest

I remember getting so excited for an Anderson fight, it was like, damn what awesome move is he going to do to his opponent today?

I was live in Montreal when that asshat showed off his "Matrix" level bullshit. One of my buddies actually fell asleep during the main event. Granted he was totally shitfaced but we were all drunk. If I ever see Anderson in person I will be asking him for a refund.
