Above not being there in the first place?

I would agree de-escalation is valuable, probably cracks top 5 or top 3.

Absolutely.

I would put number 1 as situational awareness. Sometimes you don’t know where you’re going before you get there. Or, how messed up a place is. You MUST be aware of your current situation though. That is mandatory imo

Actual useful self defense skills:

#1 stay out of the ghetto (and avoid shitty people in general)
#2 situational awareness
#3 RUN
#4 concealed carry or at least pepper spray

Actual fighting skills probably clock's in somewhere around 4-6.
Not getting drunk at bars and clubs is probably up there above fighting skills too

I think 1 & 2 kind of go hand in hand and work together.

If you never go to the bar, your likelihood of being in a bar fight drops to near zero.

When life circumstances give you no alternative than to be in a situation which calls for you to be on point...be on point.

"Dont get too wasted" is also a close relative of these principles.

Almost every fight I was ever involved in was directly attached to either a shitty person or a drunk idiot.

Or a shitty person / drunk idiot and a chick.

Shuffle those as you see fit.

I understand you. Sometimes you can find yourself in places you didn’t see yourself being in. At least I have.

I remember a few times showing up somewhere and immediately having that feeling that something is off. You can feel the tension in the air, and just know something isn’t quite right. I would leave, and hear about how things did pop off and go sideways, while i was nowhere to be seen. That is one skill everyone should harness asap. Every time I ignored my gut, I regretted it. Gotta harness that inner danger meter that fills up, and don’t ignore it. Or do, at your own peril.

Yup yup.

That's the "heebie jeebies"

That little sensor goes off.

Ghetto radar.

Best move is to leave.
Not always an option.

I would say that falls under the situational awareness umbrella.

Important for sure.
And that is programmed in us from an instinct level for a reason... because that instinct is there to keep you alive and prevent getting hurt

And if your woman gets attacked. Take a moment to ask yourself if you're truly happy with the relationship before jumping in.

Like this guy

That dude is a bitch.

A bitch that will probably grow old... but a bitch.

Yeah I know.

I like to play devil's advocate though. Like maybe she was bad in the sack or something

Yeah... I mean.. there COULD be some sort of explanation.

Maybe he didn't know her and every is assuming he bailed on his chick.

But even so- if you are a man and you see a female, child, elderly etc being harmed or attacked.... fuckin man the fuck up and do the right thing and help them.

There are fights you can choose if you fight and fights you HAVE TO fight.

If you don't protect a helpless person being victimized who can't protect themselves... bitch.

... now if she EARNED an asswhooping,
Different story

If you KTFO your opponent and break your hand it's an acceptable price to pay. What do you expect people to say, you break your hand and now the world ends?
You have to overcome the mental hurdle of punching someone with no protection. and secondly you could hit his forehead if he has movement. that would be a fight won by his forehead.

There’s a reason bare knuckle boxers primarily punched to the body and not the head.

I hate how Hollywood is under the impression that krav maga is effective.

I've seen a dozen mentions in shows and movies like the Simpsons, despicable me, Jessica Jones, Malcolm in the middle, etc. where some chick kicks someone's ass and then says she's been training krav maga.

I mean when you are involved in a fight on the street or being attacked by someone, is it most effective to use this type of self-defense?

Where there are no rules, anything goes kind of thing.

I had a former co-worker, who was in the Israel armed forces and he showed me some moves to incapacitate the person from doing some serious harm to you.

And it worked effectively although a lot of their self-defence tactics would be illegal in MMA.

This guy below had a good video on Krav Maga.

All these complicated choreographed sequences are mumbo jumbo. Take boxing or kick boxing for self defense.

Aikido and Systema are close to useless in training for self defense. The only worthwhile skill you’ll learn there is how to break fall. And to manhandle a compliant opponent who you ask to grab your wrist so they can throw themselves.

You’d be better off doing Tae Kwon Do at your kid’s dojang than that shit for self defense.

If you're relying on it for self defense and it's your only training, I agree. But aikido and sistema principles are sound and IMO can be an effective supplement to Judo/wrestling/BJJ if your objective is to remain standing or if you're a LEO and can't just beat the shit out of suspects. A probation officer I used to train with at grappling open mats would regularly hit aikido come alongs and wrist locks on guys trying to take him down. He was a former HW college wrestling All American and had the size, strength and grappling awareness to make the wrist locks work.

Krav Maga has the same problem all the mcdojo arts have. They use techniques like eye gouges and nut shots which you can't practice effectively on a live resisting opponent.

So it will never be as effective as a martial art where you CAN practice against a live resisting opponent, like Boxing, Muy Thai, BJJ, Judo, Sambo, etc.

I'll say this. The most effectively I've ever been floored in 20 years of boxing, wrestling, Judo and BJJ was holding pads for some butch Krav Maga chick at my work gym. She was drilling what I thought was a 1-2-3-4 boxing combo but apparently 4 at her gym was a field goal to my unprotected nuts. I was rolling around on the floor for at least 5 minutes and almost blacked out. I've taken a full force liver kick sparring with a pro fighter and this was probably worse.

So either that chick got really good at nut shots without practicing them live, or every dude at her gym is sterile.

To be fair you'd have to take nut shots from boxers, muay Thai fighters, and BJJ guys for comparison's sake.

Sounds like a fun day

Every boxer I know of won their street fights. I never heard of one getting gracie choked or nut kicked.

I also know of TMAs who dealt with the situations accordingly and broke the agressors leg Khalil Roundtreee style.. and then casually walked away with their buddy.
