Mine was similar. Would only function with the recomended ammo: cci mini mags. Had to run it really wet too, very light oil, like tri-flo.
After that it worked ok, but felt like it had an almost negative recoil, as slide closing on next round felt more than round blowing the slide back.
The 22s weren't as accurate as id hoped either.
A buddy of mine had another brand conversion, and said these seemed better than his. Cant remember his brand, but if these are better, the bar could be low?

Opinions on side charging uppers?
Good? Bad? Not worth the extra "flair"?

I've handled a Gibbz nonreciprocating side charging upper very recently. Very cool design. I believe @Cubo de Sangre has one.
Correct. The Gibbz is extremely well-built. The plan was to use it with the Jack lower but a number of factors changed things. Now I'm looking at using it with a "Mean Metal Guns"-branded Seekins lower.
As for it being worth it, that depends on how adventurous you are. There's nothing wrong with how the AR charges so for me this was more of an aesthetic choice than a practical or functional one. It just seemed like fun. It adds a little extra width, if that's a concern. It might make sense with something suppressed because in place of the rear charging handle a little flap was added that tucks in when you mate the upper to the lower. Easy to forget, by the way. I'd expect it to do a better job with gas in the face because there's no gaps that the normal CH would produce.
To me non-reciprocating was important and I wanted LH ejection. Gibbz also offers RH ejection.
I'm looking at this one as a possibility . . .
Would be nice whennim hunting from the truck and driving from spot to spot because the rangers and wardens are usually suuuuuuper struck about driving with loaded rifles, with the magazine you can just pop it out and throw it into the cup holder of the truck or your pocket and not have to deal with loading/reloading etc.
Saw this and thought you may be interested.

My buddy has a browning that he really loves, I've never had much of a chance to use one. They have some sort of a strange magazine that stays attached to the floorplate.
It would also be cool to check out an interesting cartridge at some point, 26/30 nosler, 6.5-300 wby etc.
So, upon inspecting some fired brass, the peening on the chamber from the firing pin is definitely rubbing on the outer case walls. My clean and oil certainly helped, but I need to get one of those 22 chamber ironing tools.Fuck!
This is a used one?
Maybe the issue is the mass of the slide?
Maybe a polymer slide with steel inserts at contact points?
22s don't seem to have enough ass to kick back these slides, properly?
Mine is sitting in its box. Been there for 4 years now.
I was reading a comparison of the nosler and weatherby rounds and read the 6.5-300 doesn't fit in a standard long action. That seemed to be a negative for quite a few people considering the two. Basically concerned of it having less support for the cartridge in the future.
Do you guys think I am a bit, well, insane for trying to go down the rabbit hole of making my AR-10 like an MK12?
Like, I have a Geissele trigger for it and a Rainier Arms ultramatch barrel so... Meh, fuck it, not going to do it.It's insane if you want it but don't try.![]()
