They rarely have success in the UFC, look at Lim and Mizugaki. Both got finished. The only 'success' is Choi but he hasn't faced top 10 fighters yet.

Is it something they're doing wrong, is it the jetlag they can't deal with or the climate, the food? There must be something.

To my knowledge East Asian MMA is quite behind in terms of fighter quality...the wrestling is there, but still laggy, the jiujitsu is there, also lagging. Boxing is definitely unrefined in a lot of their training. Doo Hoi Choi at FW is a great striker but it's to find guys that good from Korea.

Talent pool... the heyday of Japanese MMA is long over, and it hasn't blown up yet in China or Korea. If/when it does, expect to see a flood of Asian fighters in the lower weight classes. Most of them will be in OneFC or RoadFC for a while though, the UFC is going to have a hard time pulling talent from those regions at first, just because of the lack of presence and communication.

One place that people sleep on a lot is India- wrestling has a lot of history and culture there, and MMA has recently been featured in some Bollywood movies (it was a key part of the movie "Sultan," which had the biggest opening in Bollywood history). They already have the SFL, and don't be shocked if we see some Indian stars come out of it. That's a huge market that's way more open than China. I think it would be smart of the UFC to scout some Indian talent and try to set up some smaller shows there, just to test the waters.

edit: expect more Thais as well, MMA is picking up some traction there. Not sure if it's still illegal or not, but the Thai government has gone to great lengths to remove any competition Muay Thai might face

probably training. there arent any particularly reknown mma camps in japan.

also maybe some of this. asians are brainy and generally work smarter not harder types.

I too have a degree in Sherdog.

To my dismay as a half-Asian, I often worry there might be some truth to this.

But no one accuses Mexicans of having A-level atheletes, and they are awesome at fighting. Also, Japan just got second in the Men's 4x100m at the Olympics. A-sians, not B-sians!

1 - fewer high quality gyms and training partners
2 - jet lag
3 - a decade behind in mastering weight cutting
4 - a decade behind in mastering wrestling
5 - pushback from TMA masters

And let's not forget that Gomi was considered one of the world's best years back, so it's not like they have had zero talent come up. And Fujita nearly upset Fedor.

Well according to Mike Perry's corner; they can't SEE

I am Full Asian and will say that it is Genes, also. Unless we're banging out pie charts to confuse white boys or building iphones or making great chicken and broc, we're just not going to dominate.

Nah don't worry bruh, Asians are the master race

The Japanese used to be ruthless. Something happened in the last century to break their will. I can't recall what it was......

I hope you're kidding, but just in case you're not, good job on successfully being indoctrinated by racist bullshit.

has there ever been an Asian fighter that has popped for PEDs?

there's your answer.

Yeah, right. Have you seen the Indian showing at the olympics?
You want great fighters? Look at countries which have the highest number of olympic boxing/wrestling/judo champions.

Let's just say, India is in the crapper when it comes to sports. They have the numbers, but they most definitely do not have the training or the fighting culture (modern culture).

In fact, you are by far more likely to see good Chinese fighters enter the UFC than anyone from India.

Still, a fun read - thanks.

If you're the typical Elliot Rodgers type, then yes of course you would feel that way because your mother hates being Asian.

Self hating Asian detected. Take a look at the Olympics. China has always been a top achiever in medals. There is no lack of athletic ability, only lack of proper training and knowledge of MMA, which is still not popular over there.

Genes, they are too pure of a race. Even explosive rumble is mixed down the line.
