With the continually shrinking budget, are they in the process of selling out and getting out of boxing?

Many PPVs make zero sense. Guys who casuals only know in ppv. Postol vs Crawford is one of the biggest fights of the year but if they sell over 100k buys I'd be surprised.

Boxing fans don't just buy PPVs like casual mma fans do.

They still carry a large amount of very popular fighters. I'm confused by some of the strategy.

I hope they do sell out and everyone goes on 1 network to Showtime.

Dont think Showtime will never get rid of boxing because the CEO is supposedly a huge fan.

HBO cut its boxing budget.

Its being reported that Canelo/Khan PPV numbers were bad. According to Rick Glazer the fight had 332,000 PPV buys.

That would be pretty low. But still better for HBO than putting it on cable I think.

They're going to sustain in the short term but long term I believe they're going to have problems. Can't build up PPV stars without getting them in front of people first. Showtime has the "channels" and partnerships to do that right now. Showtime is looking posed to win down the stretch.

HBO struggling?
I know we all joke and shit on each other about Floyd and PAc but people don't realize how many people were tuning in to watch those guys and guys who could be potential opponents for them.

Boxing is in a bit of a lull now with that era coming to a close and HBO is doing a horrible job of building guys up.

To be fair, its not just HBO. All the promoter feuds are really fucking the sport over too.

Rather see an eventual UFC model than this random shitty PPVs to barely scrape by.

Boxing is doing terrible in America.

I'll say this though: if Canelo/Golovkin comes off HBO will have the two biggest ppvs this year hands down. Showtime currently doesn't have anything to match those.

Oh I know what you're saying. I feel like boxing put so much into Floyd and Manny that they neglected other guys. Now they are in a position where both guys are out or on the way out and they have no other real crossover stars. It takes time to build them though, doesn't happen overnight.

It's not doing terrible, it's just not doing as well as what it could based on the talent imo.

Crawford and postol wanted big money to face each other. Network now willing to shell out money for that fight. To raise funds, it had to be ppv. Top rank said if that fight can sell 100k, they will be okay or lose money.

Loma and Walters wanted big money to face each other, no one would pay ppv for that fight so it was canceled. Now loma to fight regular HBO.

All about business moves

I think they're gonna take a bath on that Crawford/Postol fight. Unless all of Omaha buys it.

PBC has singlehandedly destroyed HBO boxing

I disagree, pbc's ratings have been sub par and they are almost out of funds as well.

Every boxer seeing Floyd and manny make 100 million+ each is what is hurting boxing. Every fighter now thinks they can make crazy amounts of money without putting in the work both those guys did. They fought on regular HBO for years before they went to become ppv guys.

Like Floyd said, "everyone wants my lifestyle but they don't see the work I have put in."

This is a very important point. Both these guys also fought a lot of good or great fighters on regular HBO.
