Why would somebody gas out on top? Jiri isn't letting himself get taken down, he's just getting taken down, he doesn't want to be on bottom

Aside from serious black belts like Maia or Werdum. Nobody wants to be taken down as a strategy...

I know Whittman is selective with who he works with, but I think he could do wonders with Dom. I know Dom has spent time at team elevation, maybe he could get in touch with Whittman. It would definitely benefit him to develop a better jab & more importantly ring generalship.
