Whats Tommy Morrison's Legacy?

Pretty sad how few mention that he was actually a really good talent despite his personal issues.

White fighter with good hook and star of the worst Rocky film.

That uppercut at the end ruined the whole movie for me when I was a kid. I mean first time when I saw it, I was stunned and silenced, but when I rewinded it I laughed my ass off. But then it was just disappointing

Also lolled big time at this youtube comment

"There was a middle aged man in my neighborhood that after he saw this film on cable TV , he got up from his chair( eyewitness testimony" stripped naked as the day he was born. Then he started to scream in a high pitch and speak in tongues back and forth , then he ran into the street, still nude and ran towards the highway entrance ramp and before he was hit by a Good Humor ice cream truck he yelled Fuck you Rocky!!"

He was a scam artist and a petty criminal who had enough steroid-enhanced talent to be a fringe contender in the 90s before prison sentences and HIV caught up to him.

Beating an old George Foreman by decision was by far his biggest accomplishment in the ring.

He is a sad story. A small bright spot in-between long patches of a rough life, however short. As to his legacy in boxing? Sadly, not much. He burned hot and fast and took himself out of the game with his antics outside the ring. Eventually, those antics killed him. Same as they likely stunted and then killed his boxing career. I'm not saying he'd be a big-time HOF'er, but I think he would have had a better career than he showed (which wasn't bad) except for his addictions. RIP Champ.

I was thinking about this earlier today and i just can't help but be extremely disappointed when i think about Tommy Morrisons career. heres a guy who had all the makings of a big star but he just seemed to literally come up so short in all his big fights and some of his smaller ones!

I mean cmon the guys is on his way to the hw title and than loses to Ray Mercer which isn't that bad of a loss i guess but i mean he got demolished in a fight that he was winning up until that 5th round where he ended up getting hit with like 30 punches.

then he goes on another streak being positioned to fight lennox in a unification match before losing to the 10-1 Michael Bennt?????

than he goes on another streak before getting crushed by Lennox Lewis which isn't a bad loss by any means but the fight just wasn't competitive

Morrison was a fighter that i enjoyed to watch and i was out of my chair screaming when he beat Razor Ruddock by ko, but jeez did the guy come up ridiculously small in some of his fights

btw most of these streaks in between losses were against bums

The biggest problem with Morrison was his lack of desire to train and his hunger to party.

If he didn't blast his opponent out of the water in the first 3-4 rounds, then he was going to eat a lot of leather. He would then often also struggled mentally when fighting a fighter that could take his early round onslaught. This was likely at least partially due to his lack of conditioning, but there was just something missing (IMO) in his mental makeup that most champions have.

A little harsh, but some truth here.

The Ring did a good writeup on him. Sad, cautionary tale.

His wife is crazy for continuing to have sex with him after he was infected, she'll probably die too. Maybe his legacy is really just a twisted version of Romeo and Juliette.
