This is an oldschool style matchup, grappler vs. striker and we know what each fighter wants. Lesnar wants to take Hunto down and quickly as possible and go for the GnP or submission win. Hunt wants to keep the fight standing and go for the KO.
Hunt will want to feel it out, get his distance and timing and strike at the right opportunity. The problem with that is it takes time. And with someone like Lesnar who wants to get it to the mat as soon as possible there may not be a whole lot of feeling out process. This could be like Couture vs. Toney where Couture looked horrible shooting in from so far away but it worked. If Lesnar gets Hunt down I doubt Hunt gets back up.
Lesnar has a few options as I see it:
1. Throw a punch to close the distance and go for the TD.
2. Throw a punch to close the distance and get Hunt against the cage and then go for a clinch TD or double/single leg.
3. Bumrush for a TD immediately halfway across the cage like he did against Herring.
4. Work angles and back Hunt up against the Octagon where and go for the clinch TD, single/double leg.
5. Throw some strikes to get Hunt focused on striking and then shoot for the TD in the center of the Octagon.
6. Other.......
Obviously Lesnar is in danger or running into a massive uppercut or knee from Hunt in going for any TD attempt.
Lesnar has a great chin but reacts poorly to being hit. I don't think he or anyone can take a flush Hunto punch and not be KO'd. He has to avoid getting caught coming in.
So what is the safest way for Lesnar to get the takedown on Hunt without getting KO'd?
Great fight. I hope Lesnar wins this one. Sounds like if he does he could make a title run from his interview. It seemed like the WWE would allow it.
And I don't want any, "Get the TD" as the answer.
