What's the most you would pay for a car?

They are only starting to release the 992.2 generation 911's. The only ones that they have announced so far are the base model which has remained about the same and the GTS which is a BIG step up in performance, including a larger engine, electric turbo and small battery. The mid range GTS has been described by multiple car sites as "As fast as the old 911 turbo"

Given what a massive step up in performance the GTS was, and the fact they are about to release a bunch of new models next year(including the turbo), now is a stupid time to buy a 911 unless you can get a BIG discount on it.

Because a Porsche 911, if kept becomes an appreciating asset.

Additionally with higher trim 911s it's very easy to time a purchase so that you won't really lose anything.

GT3s and Turbos purchased at 4-7 years old will only minimally depreciate until they begin to appreciate.
Nope, only certain models which are considered collectable, which are usually the GT cars. The 911 turbo's aren't going to retain their value... I mean, they're not going to depreciate like a Ford or GM but it's still a stupid idea to buy a car that is about to be replaced with a new, better model unless you can get a big discount.

GT's yes, if not driven and kept in good condition, turbo's no. Especially when superseded by much higher performing models. Hell, look at the 991.1, 991.2 and 992.1 model ranges and the only models that are likely to increase in value if retained are possibly the 992.1 GT3, GT3RS and GT4RS(Cayman based)

12k can get you a good used Toyota Corolla
Use to be able too but not so much anymore.

I remember in 2018 buying a 2013 Corolla with 70k miles for 9k. That same car got totaled earlier this year by a red-light runner and insurance valued it at over 12k which is insane. Over 3k more than what I bought it for 6.5 years ago for a car that was over 100k miles and needed a decent amount of work (power steering pump and oil pan was leaking, struts and bushings needed replacing, engine mounts where shot, most of the electrical was on its way out).
Seems like they run closer to 20K nowadays unless you are looking at something 10+ years or with 200K miles on it
Exactly. The sweet spot for a Corolla at least in my area is around 18k range. That can get you a 2022 with 40-65k miles. Dropping even 5k less (12-13k range) isn't worth it because then you're looking at like 2012-2014s with well over 100k+ miles.

I just bought a used honda civic si for 27k, thats the most I've spent on a used car not taking inflation into account.
Did something similar. A few weeks back I got a 2022 Honda HRV with only 13k miles and had the extended 6-year warranty all in for about 24k. Didn't want to drop 30k for new but basically a brand-new car for 24k was well worth it over the used 15-20k counterparts that where mostly 2016-2019s with 70k+ miles

No chance in hell. 12k gets you a 150k pile of garbage
To make it worst those used turn of the decade cars (early 2010s+ era) started to add components like CVTs, turbos, and fuel injectors into the mix so that makes it even more of a gamble reliability wise.

I was supposed to get one, but I was afraid of car thieves. The south shore scumbags love this model. I was then supposed to get a RAV4, but learned south shore scumbags love that model too. I ended up buying a Tiguan last week. It's not a great car, but my wife and I like it. It does the job and can fit my fishing equipment in the back.

So my answer is around 52k.

Where do you fish?

Where do you fish?
I often fish in Ste-Catherine because it's so close to St-Constant, but I fish all over the place. I have 4 licenses: Québec, Ontario, Vermont and New York.

Caught that one in Plattsburgh on the 17th.

Been driving the same car (Chrysler 300) for 10 years. It cost $20k then. Still runs great, not a single problem, but it may be time for a change. Wife rode in an Escalade a while back and she's pushing to get one of those. It's tempting ...

The most I've paid new was $29k for the 2014 Wrangler that is still sitting in front of my house. It's currently splitting daily driver duties with a 2017 Ram I just got a month ago for $22.5k (which is the most I've paid for used).

I'm mentally prepared to eventually pay $50k for a low mileage gently used full size pickup to replace the Ram, but not for a few years until I pay off my mortgage. Hoping and praying these rigs will stay rolling in the meantime. (The Jeep has become a slight money pit already.)

I typically budget 30-50k for a car. I like to buy them brand new.

My dad buys Mercedes S class and G wagons every other year. He usually spends 150-200k on each and barely drives them. Like 5k miles a year. He always tells me to pick them up and drive them but I’m too afraid of getting them hit

Nice, respect.

I haven't fished regularly in forty years, since my grandfather died. He was hardcore, did it for the fish, not the pleasure.

He'd head out to La Verendrye on Friday night, sleep in his car, fish while he was awake, and come home Sunday afternoon with thirty to fifty pike.

He'd bring them down to his basement where he had a cleaning table, and once they were all cleaned he'd bring them out to his backyard, where he had a smokehouse.

I've never bought a new car. Most I paid for a classic car was $16k and the most I've paid for a daily driver is $12k.

New cars have just never appealed to me. They all look the same and they're pretty much all bland. The bells and whistles are not even that great and when they break, they cost a boat load of money to fix.

I plan on buying a used car in the next couple of months. Currently my choices are the reliable Toyota Camry or a Mazda CX-5. I'm debating if I want a compact Crossover/SUV or just a sedan. I don't want anything with a CVT. My budget is 25K to 30K. If I go up to 35K I could get a 2021 Lexus ES350.
