What's the most you would pay for a car?

Ive bought two used Corvettes for $49k and $55k. Probably about the most id pay for any used or new car.

The most I would pay is $12k

Used reliable car, never brand new
Haven’t lived in the US in a while but the last time I was there, used car prices were out of control. Can you get a decent Honda or Toyota for 12k now?

Gonna buy a Honda accord hybrid soon. Will spend 20-25k. Something within 5-7years old

...way too much :-(
Most people look at a car as tool to get them from A to B.

Unfortunately I was born with the enthusiast curse. So yeah... I pay more than I should.

And it goes beyond just the cost of the car... It costs me more in insurance and gas. But it's well worth it lol

I just bought a used honda civic si for 27k, thats the most I've spent on a used car not taking inflation into account. The 500 dollar chevy c20 I bought back in '94

Could be MUCH worse.

We have an unfortunate issue with cars in Australia... we used to have four brands manufacturing locally. To protect the local market, the government instituted a "luxury car" tax of 30% for anything over I think it was like $50k at the time (slightly higher now but not much)

Due to having some of the highest wages in the world and union fuckery, they priced the four manufacturers out of existence in the early 2000's... but the government loves all that juicy tax revenue, so we're in the absurd situation of having taxes in place to protect a local industry that hasn't existed for nearly two decades.

You can buy a 50 million dollar private jet or yacht and pay zero "luxury" tax but if you want to buy a base model BMW 3 series you do  5% import duty, then 33% luxury tax, then 10% GST. A tax, on a tax, on a tax, or basically half the total cost of imported European cars. This retardation is why the cars I like cost a truly absurd amount of money.

Fuck the Australian government.

I think my Saab 9-3 convertible was GBP 26k. I don't drive anymore and neither of us ever leave the town so pointless having flash cars. My Cooper S has been undriveable to the point of having to ship in here from San Jose and the X5 is perfect.

They have a weird bar for the price of a luxury car. $50k in USD is $83k...which isn't a lot by today's costs. That's a fucking Chevy Tahoe. Much fancy, such luxury.

Yeah but that number was originally from the 90's when the tax was first put in place. I think it's like $65k now.

I miss like in 2010 when the Australian dollar was $1.10 US :(
