What body shape and proportions do you think is ideal in MMA? Obviously it depends on the fighter, but there are clear advantages and disadvantages for each body shape. An example is where being shorter and stocky typically gives you more of that explosiveness, but takes away reach. You see this shape commonly in wrestlers.
Something interesting to look at is an Olympian and his/her body shape in accordance to their event/sport. Swimmers tend to be long and slim, marathon runners smaller and skinny, sprinters tall with big powerful legs. In MMA you don't have that standard body shape. It varies by a lot, with fighters often adapting their style to their own body or vice versa.
What do you guys think are the best proportions to have in MMA?
Edit: Another question on the side, what do you think MMA and weight classes would look like w/o weight cutting? The same, just with certain fighters moving up, or do you think they'd actually look different? I would think that you would see a big change because you only cut water for the most part. You may start to see people trying harder to lose fat or purposely losing muscle to make a weight class instead.
1. Short and Stocky
2. Round and Proud
3. Fairly Proportional
