What's the best way to find studs?

So I found a bunch of pictures in a box that never got hung up since I bought my new house in Christmas 2014

And our walls are so naked but the dilemma is ... where are the studs for when I pound nails in the walls?

This sounds pretty welfare, but I took my very powerful neodymium magnet and fondled the walls until it hooked a drywall screw. There's my stud.

It gets tricker cause some of my walls are older plaster over lathes and the magnet trick doesn't work ... so I have to look at where the baseboards got nailed in and use a yard stick to line up with the rest of the wall that way.

What tips/tricks do you have?

My Dad in law brought one over a while ago but it doesn't work on Plaster/lathe walls

Just punch through the wall. The one that breaks your hand is a stud.

Have you true rare earth magnet will cost more but their handy in construction they should stick to the wall

Our house was built in 1920 with no regulations and each cavity measures differently. They just put a stud wherever they wanted
