Whats the beef between Denny Prokopos & Ryan Hall ?

Yes, it is very rare within a specific gym to have major arguments.

I think this is also because the gym itself attracts people who adhere to the same philosophy. Over time, students will also start to conform to the philosophy of the gym and assume its identity.

The issues that can be solved by rolling are rarely the controversial ones. Usually the big rifts are not over whether the berimbolo or the spiral guard is a more effective game. The big rifts are over whether modern competition is changing BJJ for better or worse, whether we need to keep a focus on MMA or not, what standards we need to have for each belt, etc. Those things aren't going to be solved by rolling and observing the result.

I can agree with that, I just think that a forum is a particularly rage-inducing medium to discuss topics like that because of the lack of fluid communication and the inability to accurately convey thoughts.

It's when people start bitching about people over the internet that shit gets silly.

The differences between teams and gyms leads to this stuff happening even worse in real life. It is just not usually done publicly.

The stuff talked about in real life is far worse than anything that is posted on here because what is posted on here is public. When people are talking privately, they are more likely to say how they really feel, and a lot of times it can be pretty nasty.

I wish I could say that I was above all of this, but I have been guilty of it too. I try to control it, but I am human and take things personally sometimes.

It is not a part of BJJ that I am proud of. But as long as BJJ involves people interacting with each other, it is going to exist to some degree. The best thing to do is just be aware of how things are and do the best you can under the circumstances.

Hey dude, at least you are honest about it. That's more than a lot of people can say.

Also people who say Hall isn't top tier are tripping fucking balls.

Matter of definition of course. When speaking about the absolute division in ADCC Hall would be bottom tier, for his weight class probably considered one of the jokers who may win but is not most likely to do so. However if you speak about grappling in general Hall is up there as top tier for sure. At your gym you probably have an unknown brown belt who is "top tier" etc etc.

I think it's fair to say a guy who regularly competes against the best in the world at his weight and gives them close matches, like Hall does, is 'top tier'.

Hall ducks people who aren't the biggest names and aren't favored to win, like JT Torres and Denny (not saying he couldn't win, but it would be a devastating blow if he didn't)

He doesn't duck guys that are top tier like the mendes and ect. because he's not favored to win and to lose without getting dominated by one of them still earns you respect and cred (just look at the thread comments).

People act like training partners don't duck people they feel are slightly beneath in an attempt to not look bad if things don't go there way

I really don't think JT falls into that category. Especially with the gi on. JT is far more accomplished with the gi on, and I'd imagine he'd be the favorite. Even without the gi, I think most people would have JT as the favorite.

Maybe he just had other reasons not to and you shouldn't assume things about people you don't know?

I actually know a little bit about the situation, I'm not going to tell the full story since Ryan can do that himself if he wants to, I will say this, Ryan didn't even recognize Denny's name when the superfight was solicited to him. Denny is only a big name in 10th Planet people's heads, and only because Eddie markets him so much. Do me a favor and ask Cobrinha what he thinks about Denny Prokopos, and I'm sure he'll give you a blank stare.

Now I can go ahead and try to pick a superfight with Rafael Mendes all I want, but it's completely reasonable for him to reject on the basis of him not even knowing who the fuck I am.

well, after seeing this

and this

I kind think ryan is pretty right about this, and eddie should not get offended by the simple fact that danny is looks like not to be on the same league as ryan.

I think when guys start talking about what league other guys are in there are going to be issues. Ryan's probably right, but wouldn't it be easier to take some $$$ and just whip the guy if you're that much better than him? I like Ryan, and I think he'd win that match easily, but I question leaving $$$ on the table if it really would be an easy fight.

Of course, you never know the whole story, the conditions could have been bad for him or it could all be apocryphal.

I don't have time to post in 99% of threads here. Sorry, but med school/training/dogs/anything else that's real > Sherdog.
So you spend your few, valuable time talking about other people talking about other people? Makes sense.

Not sure if there was a cash prize.

Shame Denny and Hall weren't matched in the opening round of the Ultimate Absolute, then it could be settled. With Hall winning.

All I have to add to this

1. Stop justifying being nosey. I understand human interest. It makes sense why people would want to know whats up with people they are interested in, and look up to. But that doesnt make it your business. Just say, "yeah, Im nosey, fuck it. I dont care." Its like when some dork on this board tried to tell me he had a "right" to know why Drysdale and Nicolini got a divorce because theyve made themselves public figures. Get real.

2. Beef indicates something pretty specific. Biggie and Pac had beef. Just because you dont fuck with someone, doesnt mean you are beefing.

3. Again, I understand being interested in something like this. I think its kind of corny, but whatever, I get it. But dont use that to make stupid assertions or come to conclusions of something you are in no way, shape or form connected to. Ryan hasnt "ducked" anyone, ever. Just because he doesnt want to do something that he is by no means obligated to do, doesnt mean he is "ducking" them. He doesnt even like going out of town for competitions and seminars and shit. Not because he is grouchy or doesnt get along with people, but he just doesnt like taking off time from training, or spending his down time, which he has very little of, fucking around in a hotel room. So in the situation against Denny, he didnt have anything to prove to anyone (because what would he care if someone incorrectly believed Denny would win), he runs a business which he doesnt particularly like leaving and makes him enough money that prize money isnt a huge incentive, and there was no big gain for him in winning like there would be against a top tier guy (not in terms of money or popularity, but in satisfaction for himself). If you dont know him and hang out at his house, stop coming to stupid conclusions, because you not only dont know, you cant know. People always act so shocked that I come off as bitter and angry on this board, and its because of nerdy shit like that. Everyone wants to make personal judgements of shit that dont know anything about, which is offensive to the people involved on the other end, and then when you scold them for it theyll argue and tell you they were right to do it. And thats essentially what Hillary was getting at anyway but thats not even worth getting into and reopening.

Also when someone (like Hillary) points out how stupid something is and you post "well youre just complaining about people complaining" in response, it makes you look like an idiot and you should drink bleach.

you shoudl drink bleach??? what a fucking douche...

Play nicely, kiddies. While it may or may not be lame to waste time discussing other people's beef, it's undeniably lamer to create your own while beef while discussing other people's beef.
