Whats so good about CM Punk?

I bet those Marines were Christians too, outside of the squared circle Shawn is just a failure in every single aspect of life.

I never really cared for him. Met him briefly once with Chael Sonnen. He was pretty much the same off camera as on. But he is a huge fan of himself

So in his heyday I wasn't watching. But I've always heard of him and saw his spectacular MMA fights. In my limited views actually seeing him, he doesn't seem very charismatic, a good gimmick or be particularly agile.

So whats with the crazy following he has? Is there a couple good matches anyone can recommend that he was good in?

Surprised no one has posted this.

I was felt he was overrated but, as a rule, you have to be really good to be overrated.
Great mic worker and right guy right place right time for his schtick. Good but not great in the ring. Had crossover appeal in a way Vince didn't understand at the time (and probably doesn't now.)

He was kind of the anti-Hogan. Looked like ass. Probably did more than he had to in the ring. Played himself sincerely as a character, warts and all, that people related to. Didn't flex on the office for his friends. Played to bitter adults instead of starry-eyed kids. Wanted to wrestle but up and left and stayed away. Never stopped talking shit about WWE regardless of where or when.
Yeah, I was a big fan of everyone around him before he joined the WWE and just saw him as being in the right places at the right times and just good enough to keep up. He's a great promo though and he seems to really understand the fans, his passion shows in his work.

So while I didn't and still don't care to see him wrestle again, I love the effect he's having by being back and in AEW. He makes people care, tune in, and invest. Which is exactly what they need right now and really is the core of pro wrestling at the end of the day.

Can work face or heel on the mic at a super high level. Makes up for a lack of size and athleticism by telling amazing stories in the ring. You can look at his match against Lesnar as an example of how you sell something that shouldn't allow you to suspend disbelief.

I stopped watching when I was a kid (late 90s) and only came back to watching after the pipe bomb promo. Stopped watching again about a year after he left. Started watching again now that he's back.

He's a bit of a prick, but he works hard and is a genius at connecting with the audience one way or another

Shawn got beat up by civilians at a bar.
Bill Watts would have sent him packing the next day.
i wonder what he would've done after seeing cm punk's ufc matches then.

Where would CM Punk be if he didn't have huge physical freaks to give him everything in the ring who, themselves, were super over with the fans? Undertaker, Lesnar, Cena, these guys practically buried themselves to make CM Punk into a thing. Look at Cena selling a single table shot for SEVEN MINUTES. Just burying himself so this guy can have this spot where he's the center of everyone's attention. I'm not saying it was wrong to do that because all the angles Punk was in were very successful. But it needs to be said, in spite of his self-made man bs, he got a shit ton of favors lavished on him from corporate WWE.
