After rewatching the fight, I have a few takeways. Number 1, every shot Conor threw was a kill shot. He won the first round and the second up until he got rocked, but there was no way he could hold that pace for 5 rounds. That style takes a lot out of a fighter's gas tank. Coupled with the fact at Conor had no weight cut and more pounds on his frame than he was used to fighting with, his gas tank depleted quickly. I think it's possible Conor was in worse cardio shape than featherweight fights due to the sheer fact that to make featherweight he has to do a ton of cardio to lose the pounds.

Second, Diaz's chin held up rock solid. The guy has only be TKOed one time and he leaned into that Thompson head kick. No shame in that. The dude's chin is iron, McGregor hit him with a lot of power shots and he ate them like a bag of chips after a bong hit.

Third, Diaz caught Conor and rocked him. Part of that could be due to Conor gassing, and part due to Diaz's phenomenal boxing skills.

Fourth, as we already kind of knew, McGregor doesn't have much on the mat. He has a lot to still improve.

I hope Diaz gets paid and gets the big matchups he deserves. The dude has been putting in the work for so long and not getting the recognition. Coming in on 11 days notice and doing what he did is incredible against a guy with a full camp.I think its hard to justify throwing him in there with Dos Anjos, but give him his pick of any lightweight or welterweight he wants other than the championship fights.

For McGregor, his only option is to go back to featherweight and defend. To me its a tough choice between Frankie and Aldo. Breaks my heart for Frankie but I gotta lean Aldo. In the meantime, Frankie vs Holloway.
