Khabib wasn't the best wrestler in his area, so at 17 he switched to Sambo. Luckily for us, I might add.khabibs whole career as of now vs a dude who's a two times gold medalist in wrestling
same for Jon Jones
which one is more impressive and hard to achieve
sherdog is dying and I'm literally bringing excitement to itThe lack of originality of this thread is more impressive.

That isn't a negative. Lots of top wrestlers could never be top MMA players either. Chael has an interesting story about Lindland not being able to beat a certain wrestler, until he broke his mouth in a bout and then challenged him to step outside. After that, Lindland never lost a wrestling match to him again. Lindland had that fighter streak, and the top wrestler of that era did not.
That's a long way of saying, they're different skillsets. Both are impressive, differently. Wrestling is probably harder, in the sense that the rules are more stringent. MMA is harder because you have to have a certain attitude, or personality, to make it.
There is no right answer. Sorry.
Ya, he was more competitive than just about anyone. Wouldn't shower before a bout, just for an edge.Sounds like Lindland.
Always enjoyed watching him get splattered.
Stop making these bullshit threads in the heavies, ffs. 3 today already by you. I don’t give a fuck if you want to be a guppy level thinker, that’s all about tmz. How about you make your shit thread in the proper forum. The sub forum formerly known as the Wasteland. That’s where it belongs.
I had to go off the forums just to learn that Woodley pulled out. Why? Because shit threads like this push real news back to pg 2, or 3.
Well I won’t be seeing anymore of your 5 yr old level threads. If the mods won’t get rid of your shit, then I choose not to see the threads anymore.
Ignored.
MMA is a younger sport than wrestling. Still, Jones is not the only fighter who has been able to remain successful over a substantial period of time (Fedor, GSP, Aldo, etc.).I agree with people that an Olympic gold in wrestling > UFC gold. That said, this doesn’t mean two Olympic golds are > what Jones has accomplished. Putting the steroids aside, he’s THE most accomplished fighter ever. There are dozens of wrestlers in history who have taken two golds in wrestling. If we’re counting worlds (which most years are just as competitive as Olympics) there are probably a hundred. Going 25-0 in mma with 8 title defenses and being ranked #1 for 8 years is at least as impressive as 2 golds in wrestling. If we’re talking about 4-5 golds (Worlds included) then I’ll go with the wrestling.
Also I would like to add that although the talent pool in Olympic wrestling is much much deeper then it is in MMA, being a Dominant undefeated LHW or HW champion in MMA basically means you are the baddest man on the planet which isn’t something you can say about a 2 time Olympic gold wrestler.

i'd go with something like this.Olympic Gold in wrestling is more impressive as an accomplishment (moreso than winning a UFC belt). Elite success in MMA is more impressive as a career (actual combat, longevity, etc.).
You can't say that Jones is on par with a two time Olympic Gold wrestler because those are two different things. If we're talking prestige, Jones' reputation sullies the argument. As much as I am a khabib fan I don’t think his career should be compared to Jon Jones just yet ( who I hate btw) so Jones imo is about on par with a 2 time Olympic gold medal winner maybe slightly under, while khabib is not there yet.
