Whats more impressive, dispatching a fighter within minutes, or outclassing them for the whole fight

Not necessarily referring to the Jones fight

But what is more impressive generally. Finishing off a fighter very quickly, or outclassing them in every aspect for the whole 3 or 5 rounds, without finishing them?

A good example would be, Conor beating Aldo in 13 seconds, or Max Halloway putting on a clinic on Aldo.

Another question. If Jones had fought Gane and it went 5 rounds, with Jones comfortably winning every round, but was unable to finish him, would that be less or more impressive than finishing him off quickly in minutes?

An easy finish is more impressive, but will leave the haters coping.

-You finish your opponent, you could have killed them without a ref. (Not that I condone that sort of thing.)

-Most bonuses are because of finishes.

-Also, ask almost every fighter, they would have rather had an easy finish.

What was more impressive: JDS beating Cain or Cain beating JDS (twice)?

If you think JDS beating Cain was more impressive, it sucks for you to have brain damage.

Depends honestly. Fluke flash KO < clinical dismantling. But showing you can end someone’s existence at will (yes thinking 285 main event) > clinical dismantling.

Finish them -- sooner the better.

I want to watch fights.

Fights are about finishing opponents -- not aesthetics or style points with two fighters jumping around like a bunch of Kansas City F...

It depends really. It takes skill to just run through people like khamzat, Jones, Anderson. But then you have guys like Machdia, wonder boy, Cruz who pick you apart for a decision and are equally impressive. GSP too.

to come back after a three year hiatus, and flawless victory that shit, in the year 2023, at the HW division, facing an elite HW striker, is absolutely ridiculous. what jones did was super impressive.

Both can be impressive, but a finish is a finish. Also, from a fighter perspective, finishing fast probably means no damage taken and ready for another bout soon, so that option should be preferable.

Dominant decisions for me…

15/25 minutes is a long time to be in control of a fighter, especially at the top levels. This is why I’ve always felt St. Pierre’s run of dominance was so impressive. He would almost never find himself in a bad position, and would often leave no doubt who was the better fighter when his hand was raised.
