I know he is supposedly still recovering from a lingering thumb issue but after recent bookings there's not much left to be made for weidman. From UFC glendale to UFC 224 most of the top 15 middleweights are booked with tavares/jotko, boetsch/sapato, branch/marreta, hall/costa, vitor/machida and jacare/gasteum.

The only MW's unbooked in the top 15 at this point are rockhold, bisping, brunson (who are all coming off being ko'd) and weidman. Rockhold in a recent interview with ESPN that the only fight at MW keeping him from moving up would be the bisping trilogy and that the UFC has expressed interest in making that bout. I doubt the UFC will be making Weidman versus either rockhold or bisping.

That leaves brunson for weidman but even brunson has moved on from calling out top 10 contenders and asked for a fight with Elias Theodorou the other night. Makes me wonder if weidman's timetable for recovery to nowhere near soon. I think weidman/marreta or jacare would have made sense but obviously those fighters are booked now with the winner of jacare/gastelum likely receiving a title shot.

Just interesting given the momentum weidman seemed to have gained and now lost after his W over kelvin. Now kelvin is in a title eliminator and weidman is no where to be heard.

Waiting on that winner of Whittaker and Romero!

The Chris will rise again!

Big fan of chris. But it seems like he’s banking on Kelvin wiping Jacare out of title talks. Then he’s gonna come out of the woodwork and say Kelvin can’t get a title shot since he weidman beat him in his last fight.

and Jacare better hope he can secure that TD because if he stands with Kelvin, Kelvin is gonna KTFO him.

He should fight Jacare if Jacare wins his next fight.

Winner of that fight, fights the winner of Whittaker vs. Romero II for the title.

He wants to "lurk his way to a title shot." He is being smart. Waiting for all the bad match-ups to get booked, and hopefully jump in as a "short notice opponent," in case Romero or Whitaker fallout. Which is very probable, Whitaker has had some serious health issues, and Romero is old, nobody beats father time.

The new UFC only makes me believe with more convictions that guys like Anderson Silva, GSP, Demetrious Johnson and Jon Jones were cut from a different cloth. Regardless of what a dumb hater says, I don't care how many steroids a person takes, most fighters will get caught somewhere along the line of defending against number 1 contender after number 1 contender.

If you go 12 fights and more, in the UFC, without getting caught, then you are just a cut above all fighters that have competed to date. It is not easy.

I don't think the UFC knows what to do with him. He is a top fighter, former champ who happens to be 1-3 in his last 4.

I am fairly certain they would love to build him up again as he is a draw but put him against someone ranked to low and no one will be interested in seeing him fight, put him against the top 5

Rockhold, Souza, Romero, Whittaker, Gastelum... He lost to two of them and beat one of them.

He hasn't earned a title shot so cross Whittaker out. Fighting Jacare would make sense but Jacare probably wants a title shot more than anything else at this point (although he is only 3-2 in his last 5).
