Whatever happened to spinning rims?

Saw a pos chevy with those shitty spinning hubcaps and it got me thinking. I haven't seen spinning rims in a long time. It seemed like every other Escalade had them in the 2000s. Are they still a thing? Were they outlawed or something? I always thought they were kinda cool.
 
They never stopped being one of the dumbest peacock expenditures ever.

They died out around the same time as Hummers and Ed Hardy. What whacky times they were!

You can still see them in LA, Hispanics still have mad love for announcing their presence
 
There’s one guy still hanging on to them in my area but I don’t see him often. Black hummer with “hummer” in 2ft tall white letters down the side. Looks as good as you’d think.
 
I agree that they were a dumb peacock expenditure, however, I always thought they were cool too. Because they spin around and that's neat to see.
 
As long as we have Mexicans, someone somewhere will have spinners lol
 
Almost bought some for my Chevy, then met my first girlfriend.

Been too broke since.
