What would it mean for Oliveira’s career if he wins?

I'm really just looking forward to the fight. The grappling and scrambles in the first fight were siiiick.

If Olives wins I'll be very impressed, not too bothered with GOAT debates.

Agreed.

Charles at least matched Khabib’s run as champ in like a year and a half. If he wins this, I think he’s easily a top 5 LW ever in his peak. Even if not, you can’t take away how impressive his title run was.

Although I think Khabib would beat Oliveira, I think Oliveira is by far more interesting to watch.

Unlike Khabib, whose "striking" was a farce, just to lull people into a grappling shot — Charles Oliveira is legitimately trying to knock you TF out. And, he can grapple if he needs to.

Oliveira is legitimately trying to finish his opponents, every second, every minute, every round ... non-stop pressure ... and by whatever means necessary.

Charles may have his weaknesses, but I don't think there's anyone in MMA (anyone) who is more exciting to watch.

Kill-or-be-killed (with uber skill in all areas) makes Charles Oliveira a fan favorite in my opinion.

I will always shell out $$$ to watch Charles Oliveira fight.

Does he achieve goat status? P4P status? Neither of these and it’s just another fight? What do you guys think.
2 time champ has some serious bragging rights, even if he's not in a goat conversation.

He's a top 5 LW all time for me, and a win should propel him into an all-but-unanimous top 3 (all-but, because there's no such thing as unanimous around here). And I'm talking all MMA, not UFC (so this would likely propel him above Alvarez for those fans who currently have him below that.)

After he wins, he gets a guaranteed rubber match; after he wins that, he will be the best LW ever.

If Charles wins in Abu Dhabi, it means he can do it anywhere. A big challenge and an even bigger statement if he can pull it off

It makes me wonder, should being the greatest in a certain division write off losses in a separate division when it comes to your legacy? Penn is probably top 3 lightweights of all time and most of his losses are in other divisions, so how does that affect his legacy?

Oliveira has way too many loses to be GOAT anything unfortunately.

If he beats Islam (probably has to do it twice) he's GOAT LW. He basically already is on sheer resume alone. It's not like LW has had a long line of dominance. No one has won more than like 4 LW title fights.

He would arguably have the best LW resume and winning the title 2x would be pretty impressive. He has all of Khabibs best wins, but Conor and beat his successor. He has taken losses though, but I would put him above most LW champs if he defended 2-3 times again.

It would mean that he is the champ and that now we probably have to put up with another pathetic immediate rematch.

He needs to beat Islam 2 times to have an argument against Khabib imo

If he loses, I think Islam moves ahead of him in the LW GOAT rankings.

He just looked outpowered. Hard to see what can go differently. Probably Islam by sub again. Kinda reminds me of DC-Rumble except Charles didn't even have the same success as Rumble did.

The greatest mixed martial artist of all time in the lightweight division. If he manages to dethrone Islam, he's lightweight GOAT. For all-around GOAT, he'd have to be double champ to surpass GSP.

If he wins his next fight he is the GOAT
If he loses his next fight he was never that good/will be exposed

So just another day on Sherdog

He has a tomato can record, he’d be GOAT if he can avenge them.
