What will the 2010s be remembered for?

obviously you being murican, this is your take, apart from Bin Laden, the others no doubt got coverage at the time they happened but aren't anywhere near decade defining.
for example, I know very little about what happened in Ferguson, Missouri
Sure that's my list. I could give two shits of what others think of it.

Our feelings re: LAST JEDI (2017)

This wouldn’t be so bad if they used them for something other than inflating their egos, and the pursuit of self-indulgence. Would love to just ask someone what was so important on that phone, and them say, “I’m learning something productive.”
Quite so.

I think in many instances it's also pure escapism, something to do in the public space, that allows us to quell anxiety and avoid having to process the presence of 'others', meet their gaze or even *gulp* interact.

Banging 7 gram rocks and shitty Super Hero Movies.

I do all the time. Of course I goof off too (like Sherdog for instance), but I use the phone productively often. Of course, no one would differentiate me from someone who is constantly snapchatting, and I don't blame them as productive phone use isn't the norm.

A rebellion against experts (populism, but the phenomenon is wider than that)
Cryptocurrency
The rise of the Oligarch
Crossfit
The gut microbiome
Quantum computing
Mass social engineering
The Cloud
Woke culture

It's smartphones now but before it was newspapers or just staring into space

Unfortunately it'll be associated with our stupid ass president as well. Hopefully he'll get voted out in 2020 and won't spill over into the next decade.

Oversaturation of social media and meme culture
Silicon Valley's increasing influence in general
"Hipster" lifestyle (fashion, organic foods, craft beverages/foods, industrial interior design, "ironic" humor)
Trap music
Political strife (especially the later half)

How about the oversaturation of "challenges"

It began with the Ice Bucket Challenge then you'd hear a new one every week (most didn't take off).

Everyone wanting to be an influencer/blogger/podcaster/etc.

Everyone wanting to go viral or become a meme was a HUGE 2010s thing.

Also...

Bro, there was a fire challenge at one point. Kids would set themselves on fire and then jump into a pool and run under a shower.

Decline of the middle class
