From someone who was born in 1992, what were the 80s like for those who lived during that decade?

Ah we gave teh AIDS, we received teh AIDS... twas a glorious time

Just like today but with more Emilio Estevez

Rap was rap. It wasn't "hip hop"
And it was fun. It was about good beats, good rhymes, and could you break dance to it. Breakin' was awesome. It was everywhere too. Teenagers would flatten out a cardboard box in a parking lot just so they could do some head spins.

Hulk Hogan was everyone's hero. And everyone knew that he was the toughest SOB on the planet. Except for Mr. Miyagi of course. Nobody could beat Miyagi.

Ninjas were everywhere.

The only argument about martial arts was Karate vs Kung Fu.
Everyone still believed that a tiny martial artist could murk 20 buff dudes.

Hair spray. Lots and lots of hair spray.

Oh, and everyone's dad was an alcoholic. It was weird because by the 90's there were almost no alcoholic fathers.

I think maybe in the 80's the dad's drank to forget their troubles, and by the 90's everyone's dad just said "why drink? I can just leave" And so all my friend parents in the 90's were divorced.

Cars were at their worst, I remember that. I loved watching music videos as a kid and first crush was Martha Quinn.

oh man, that takes me back. good ole martha quinn. when mtv actually showed music videos.
the whole 'new wave' thing in music was novel and exciting.
clubs were helluv fun, coke was everywhere and loose bitches wanted to get down.

Parachute pants and break dancing. My sister would stand on a six foot ladder and flick a flashlight on and off so I had a strobe light. Good times.

The last decade where kids would meet up after school and play sports just for fun.

The last decade where kids under the age of 10 could play in their yards or ride bikes around the neighborhood without having some jackass helicopter parent freak out and call CPS.

The last decade before electronic devices made slaves of us all.

The last decade where you might steal a fredricks of hollywood catalogue in the mail as it was the closest to porn you could easily obtain.

The last decade where you may only personally know one person with a home computer.

80s is the best decade ever. It was so great, it spilled into the early 90s. Everything was shit before that and everything was shit after that.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, It was the most poltergeist of times. Dudes running around ripping maggots out of their skins,

boys getting rusty trumboned by clowns,

and little girls never came out of the closet.
