Hot Take What was Tyron Woodley's peak?

Easy to look good against nobodies.
Hmm.. Jack Della Maddelena and many other fighters must've not have gotten that memo. But this where I leave. Tyron Woodley was a good fighter who could be remembered more fondly if he put more combos together and played the aggressor more, every time he did, he had his opponents on the fence and would've most likely gotten more ko's or decisions his way but even being a defensive fighter he still got the title with several defenses under his belt.

Yeah I’ll have to disagree with you there. His career before becoming a champion is an example of what would happen if he tried to increase his volume, for the sake of increasing volume. When you throw punches, you can’t just he throwing them to throw them. There has to be a reason behind it, or an opening you see. If he did that, he would have tired out or gotten knocked out a lot more often in his prime.
If he got submitted by Maia, he wouldn’t have gotten points for being aggressive, it would be a negative mark on his resume.

Overall, I'd say he was as good as he ever got right up until Usman beat him in 2019. Believe it or not, submitting Darren Till used to really mean something! He had plenty of horrible fights before he ever won the belt, so I wouldn't attribute his boring championship fights as evidence of some sort of decline in his fighting ability. If he didn't get people out early, which is extremely hard to do against the fighters he was matched up against, then he was gonna pace himself to a decision. And he would, too. Man, would he ever get his pace on. Ugh, and the worst part of it was that he kept winning doing it so there was no need to change! Then he seemingly fell off a cliff. I think he might still be falling.

Tyron was never my friend.

While we're talking about Tyron, if you're ever looking for a great display on how to whoop him that doesn't involve Nate Marquardt almost killing him, check out what Rory MacDonald did to him way back in 2014. Tyron was on a roll before that fight, got tooled, then kept the roll on afterwards which makes the W look all that much better for young Rory. Kind of a shame how things turned out for him in the end.

I cannot stand Tyron Woodley, but in all honesty dude had a pretty good run in the UFC until his last few fights.

During the times of him beating Condit, Lawler, Maia, & Till they were pretty legit. Condit was always known to be dangerous, Robbie was the fckn champion going to war with everyone, Maia was on a streak that was undeniable during those days, & Till was looked at as something special on the rise. Even beating Dong Hyun Kim meant something in those days. Of course, all of that rhetoric was legit back in those days but it was the reality of those days nevertheless. Yes, Woodley's fights against Wonderboy were dreadful, but it is what it is.

Woodley gets a lot of shit & I get it, because I have been one to give him shit as well, but he definitely isn't some scrub that got lucky.

So all in all Woodley's peak, at least for me, was when he lost the strap to Usman.

I'm with you on all counts. I've never liked Woodley going back to his Strikeforce blanket days, but it's hard to deny how great he was in the UFC. Even the Wonderboy fights, which were 47 minutes of boring crap, included him coming as close as you can come to finishing someone without actually doing it against the consensus best striker in the division at the time.

I still don't like him, but I have to respect and acknowledge what he did.

Honestly, not sure what to think of Woodley after being slapped around by a YouTuber.
