what was it about Jones early on that was exposed as a heel?

I remember around time of shogun fight a pretty big group of fans on multiple message boards seemed to turn on Jones overnight. I always felt like up to that point Jones was fairly well behaved and wrote off the people calling him fake and a dbag as haters or people that were looking too much into things. obviously now I'd say that I was 100 percent wrong as Jones seemed to slowly get worse and worse to the point now, I think many people have a low opinion of him.

what was it early on that was so terrible though?

just came across as fake as fuck

I always thought it was the Machida fight that turned people.

Christian haters. Too many non-believers with too loud of a voice that screamed hypocrisy for any infraction.

It was the Shogun fight and all the Shogun ballwashers that started it all but it really gained momentum during the build up to the Evans fight. Evans was mad that Jones was champ and took that shot at Shogun. Then the whole camp split and all that shit. Makes me laugh cuz I never liked Rashaad either

"This is the biggest moment in the history of the beef. At the time, it didn't seem like a big deal. Before his title shot with Shogun, Jones did a 20 minute interview with Ariel Welhani on a number of different topics, one of which being, then teammate Rashad Evans. He noted that he thought Rashad would come back well from the injury and that he wanted his blessing before he took the title shot.

Then there was the part that made everything a little sticky. Welhani asked Jon about fighting Rashad because if Jones beat Shogun he'd be the title holder. A fight between the teammates could be called for by UFC president Dana White. His response was if that's what Dana White asked for, he would fight him. But Jones reiterated that he wouldn't want to fight him and it would be awkward for them both.

That's a far cry from saying, "I wanna fight Rashad," but the statement still irked Evans because they vowed to never do it. From that moment on the relationship was never the same."

It was really some bullshit and ever since then it's been a constant battle for Jon defending himself. He never said he wanted the Rashaad fight he just said if they were going to make them do it he would do it. Rashaad turned that into Jones was fake and this and that and it stuck.

Jon Jones = J'onn J'onzz (martian manhunter)

I don't see anyone would get that Jones was fake for beating down shogun

i never focused much on his personality drawbacks. only problem I have with him is i want to see him at heavyweight. i'm just bored with his body specs match-ups. 6'4", 85" reach, I mean come on dude move up. i lost interest in jones pretty much from Machida/Jones on. i mean i am still interested in other LHWs who are fighting him, just not with jones himself. If he moves to HW then I'll dust off my fanfare.

Not really acting like a heel but this shit was cringy for sure.

“I’ve always been a person who tries to do the right thing in life, for the most part,” said Jones. “I’m no angel, but I was always the kid who snitched on the kids who had pot. I don’t want to offend the pot smokers out there, but I was kind of just a snitch. I was just down for people doing the right thing. My parents kind of raised me to be a good guy. I’ve always been down for the good side, I guess.”

Why the hell would he do that? Like what does he get out of it?

Surely in hindsight it's obvious he was trolling.

He was thought to be uppity cause he referred to himself as the future champ and it pissed people off. And Rashad was thought of as uppity too so there was no love for Rashad on this forum.

That's what most of it is, Jones was thought to be too arrogant, cocky and ego driven but it's not as bad as it used to be. People started saying he was Fake but that came later.

Honestly, I think Jones was trying to project a good image and do "the right thing", but lots of people hated him anyway, and it seemed like there was a moment where he said "fuck it" and embraced the role of heel.

Any socially competent person could clearly see he was a fucking douchebag from the start...
