what are some things I should tell my sister in law to get from the motherland of muaythai? Brand names to look for? *think limited budget so don't get crazy on me, i'm just looking for cool but cheap things like, shorts n ankle supports for example.

I second this request, I'll be in Thailand for 3 weeks in July... also happy to get suggestions on where to go or who to look for, as I am hoping to watch at least one muay thai match...

I would just get some local unknown brands that you wouldn't find over here.

these are the brands you can look out for

boxing gloves: king, twins, fairtex, windy
handwraps: king ( they're mexican style)
mma gloves: king has the mma sparing gloves exactly like faitex

get a gym bag as well, nationman shin pads, twins or windy thai pads, headgear

    places to go to

muay thai matches : lumpinee or ratchadamnoen.

the seats for "farangs" or foreingers is roughly 200 baht or about 45 us$

training camps: go to muaythailand.com and look for a camp that seems ideal to you

tourist spots: floating market, royal palace, temple of the dawn, reclining buddha, elephant and crocodile farm

shopping: chatuchak weekend market, pratunam, platinum mall.

    hope this helps.

oh and bring at least 500 us$ for shopping alone, just to be safe :D

I'm headed there in 3 weeks for the rest of summer. I'm going straight to Boon Sport for shorts and equipment. Work of art!

If you do buy a Mongkol....Get it blessed at a Thai Temple (Wat)....

If you know any Thais they will help you do it....Just donate money or buy a gift basket that it is specifically made to be given to monks....the basket is filled with stuff that the monks use (like food and tolietries)....

    I would avoid King equipment....

It seemed to be of a lower quality...Stick to Windy, Twins, Thai Smai, MTG and Fairtex....

Bought some King shirts and they didn't even shrink right after I washed them...

Got a pair of Boon Thai Pads....I love them....Best pair of Thai Pads I ever had....

Made very well...Feel like they are going to last forever....

Not so crazy about the shorts unless you buy a pair of Custom Made Shorts...
They do a great job - just bring your own design...

My personal choice of Thai Equipment:

    Sparring Gloves: Twins

    Bag Gloves: Twins

    Shin Pads: Thai Smai

    Cloth Shin Pads: Nationman

    Belly Pad: Boon

    Thai Pads: Boon

Focus Pads: Have Twins but the Boon ones look pretty damn good

    Anklets: Nationman or Twins

Shorts: Thai Smai makes the best plain Nylon ones...
Twins makes the best mass produced Satin ones
Have had custom made shorts done by Boon, Thai Smai and Twins...All three did an awesome job
