What reason would Dana have to not strip McGregor of the 145lb title right now?

He said he would make Aldo vs Frankie a title fight if closer to time he hasn't returned.

But why the holdup? He is backing out of a scheduled fight which is going to largely ruin a milestone event, he lost his last fight, and for the second time in a row he was scheduled to weigh in and compete two weight classes above 145. Throw in the fact he is claiming he is retired...

Lets say they think he is going to return, even if thats the case, there is plenty of reason to strip him of the belt why are they dragging their feet to give him a marketing tool if he is trying to obtain more money from them?

Zero reasons not to.

No defenses of it.

Claiming faux-retirement.

Enough with the stranglehold on the division already.

Trying to leave Conor some undeserved dignity ?

He quit and it should be vacant. But the promotion is going to do what it do.

Probably because Conor is just posturing, he has no intention of retiring. I like how Dana put his foot down though and said if he doesnt fix this quick he's getting stripped. Bout time to not let him hold up that division anymore

Everything is done at the whim of the UFC brass. It's total nonsense that Frankie/Aldo was for the interim title when Conor is fighting a rematch in a different weight class on the same card.

There's no reason. Why allow some champions to stay inactive for years and not strip them, but make interim titles under champions who are out for only months. All done on a whim from Lorenzo/Dana.

Probably because this 'retirement' angle is his way of saying 'Nate beat the fuck out of me and I guess I can't really fight at 155 but I bulked up two weight classes in three months and need more time to get my weight back under control because I was already on deaths doorstep when I had to make 145 before.'

Hope it happens. Two fights outside of his weight class and now pulling out and claiming to retire. Someone who has no intentions of fighting any time soon shouldn't be clinging on to a belt.

Conor said the belt doesn't matter so he should give it up any way. Unless Nate was just getting to him when he said that.

Conor hasn't told his employer that he is officially retiring...yet. Dana is doing the right thing to give him the chance to do it before stripping him. Honestly I don't think Conor gives 2 shits about the 145 belt, and we will never see him fight at 145 again.

The UFC's biggest star. They'll postpone the strip as long as possible - if they feel there's a potential resolution.

waiting to see if el tappo gets back to him

but the ufc has the leverage in this is with the ufc. he shold strip him, dont make the ufc 200 fight, which was a garbage fight from the beginning, and put jonny bones and gsp on it and it will be much better

With GSP they were trying to steal the belt back when he retired, and he was the biggest star at the time I believe.
