What more does Aljo got to do to be respected??

Get big Frank a deal
Maybe get a haircut and a normal job

Most consecutive UFC BW title defenses

Longest winstreak in BW history

Tied for most win in BW history

UFC world champion

Never gets in trouble outside the cage. Model citizen

But this guy gets boo’d in New Jersey when he is a New Yorker.

There are actual criminals on the UFC roster who are respected more.
Aljo is great but his wins have been very close. I was at the fight tonight. I thought Cejudo won and so did a lot of the crowd. I think that's why they booed. I thought Aljo got a good reception when he came into the ring. The crowd didn't agree with the decision. I will say I watched most of the fight through the cage so I have to watch it again tomorrow to see if I had it scored correctly. As far as Aljo as a person, I grew up 15 minutes from him. Everything I here about him is very good. People that know Aljo in real life all speak very highly of him.

Sure there is, beating a Cejudo coming off a 3 year lay off out of his prime who if you take his post fight comments will be one and done in this run makes it unimpressive, only saving grace for Aljo in this fight was it wasn't Cejudo from several years ago he was facing.
I don’t know. To me, Cejudo looked as good as ever, increndibly fast even today. Impeccable takedown defense in the open and great one at the cage. Closind the distance well enough against much longer opponent. Everything was still there, Aljo was just better. He always gonna be a harder matchup than people lkke half-dead TJ.

Strongly disagree Cejudo was more tentative, clearly slowed down and had lost that vicious edge. At best you can put it down to ring rust at worse he's clearly on the decline, not shocking when you look how the lower weight classes typically fall off faster in their 30s.

I don’t know it’s tough to say. He had an opportunity to be loved he just fought two MMA villains in row and the fans still won’t get behind something just isn’t clicking. He’s a very skilled fighter and probably the 2nd or third best BW ever in my eyes

Well fair. I still think that Aljo is the worst possible matchup for Cejudo besides Mighty Mouse, when I look at his career. Aljo because he has all the tools to neutralize Henry’s biggest strentghs and Mighty because he is so damn good at everything. Also the fact the he absolutely underrated Aljo which he admitted post-fight. But fair opinion, obviously you can’t be at your physical prime at 36, even if you look good.

He looked gunshy to me.

Personally I think that is what hurts older fighters more than the slowing of speed or diminishing of cardio (which I also felt was noticible with Henry tonight)

Is that ring rust or old age, either way prime Cejudo 3 years ago against tonight's version of Aljo? Would be either a 50-45 decision or a finish in his favour.

Maybe I'm underplaying Aljo's role in how bad Cejudo looked but something was off, be it ring rust, old age or he couldn't figure out Aljo. If by the sounds of he it's done fighting then we won't ever conclusively know.

I'm not even an Aljo fan, just wanted to see Cejudo get humbled, LOL!!! And he did.

THAT wasn’t a humbling type ‘loss’ there Bud. Lol

What Weidman did to Anderson was a Humbling. Not a fight like this

Win a title fight convincingly? Or perhaps without gassing after 3 rounds, or perhaps look like more than regional level with the striking?

Your takedowns and back control are your weapon, we get it, that’s already in the arsenal. How about you get a bit better at striking?

How did Henry get good at striking? Spent his whole life only grappling, what’s your excuse?

Lol, but even if he catches someone real quick it'll just be like the Cory win where heaps of people said it was over too quick to really show anything.

Might be different now that he's champ.
yeah itd be seen as a display of dominance if he pulled it off. and if not, people would respect that he tried to go for broke. its gotta be better than scraping by with close split decisions

He’s not a likable fighter so he will have a hard time being liked and respected. Simple stuff. If he put on O’Malleys jacket like Merab did he would be touted as the new GOAT here
Nah even if he beats O'Malley like he did Cory. They'll say "but that's what he was supposed to do. O'Malley is not a grappler. You don't get a medal for that."
It's tough. Sterling will only get his respect close to retirement or after retirement. It's not his fault. The fans are stupid, Dana is a hater and the media (barring some like Luke Thomas, Ariel and a few others) don't do him any favours. If his former opponents can respect him (like Yan) i don't know why these "fans" can't

Right now I dont know. Everyone fighting him has a big weakness coming into it,since he beat Yan,and some people dont like that he stalled the fight out in that one. There's just alot of ammunition for those who already dont like him.

The hate and disrespect was so predictable. If people paid attention to how good this guy is instead of inventing drama, they would've actually enjoyed the fight.

beating omalley would do it

i think he beat henry convincingly

but the tj win was not great, the dc win was awful, but it'll be pretty hard to deny him once he gets another legitimate win imo

beating omalley would do it
I dont think so.

O'malley other than the Yan fight is largely untested. So fans will hold it against him.

Like... beating Sandhagen would help alot more, but he's already been beat by Yan and Dillashaw. So,it might take time for him to get the respect he deserves.
