What makes you proud of being American?

Idk anymore but it is funny having a picture of Hitler bouncing around the top of the berry at the moment.

The US has the best music. Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Stylistics, Toto.

I'd say that, even though people need to be able to think critically and obtain their own individual beliefs, patriotism in ones country is a wonderful thing.

It provides social connection, pride, hope and ethics. It also provides character and morale.

I wish that I had it here in the UK. I feel like I'm living in a land of lonely beige a lot of the time, doing things to survive and make my life a little bit better, but never really sampling the fruits of any healthy and happy society. I worked to buy my flat, I bought a flat to provide security for myself, I work to keep it. I don't know my neighbours aside from a hello and I don't drink, so I don't go to the pub. There is nothing worth going out for either. I'm essentially a cog in the machine, endlessly turning, only finding optimism in the idea of finding adventure outside of this rock, something that I've been putting off for years in order to get myself the basics.

The only real patriotism that we have in this country either comes from the far right, who I don't want to be associated with, or from celebrating what the elites and the royals are doing. Everything else is a small, strange, boring miasma of random bollocks, aside from when the elite wants us to do something, such as COVID shots or to clap for NHS nurses for five minutes a day, for a few months until it's socially decided to disregard them again.

I am proud of plenty of things. The best way to describe being American to me is how we celebrate the 4th of July.

We go to a park down the street. We fill up a wagon and walk. We get there at 6pm. You get a small area for your crew in a field and set up tables and chairs, trays of food, coolers, lay out blankets, etc. There is a stage where bands perform. Food trucks, ice cream trucks, souvenir stands, cotton candy, candy apples, popcorn, zeppole, roasted nut stands. All of your friends and family and neighbors are there sharing food and drink. Kids play. Then at 9pm everyone sings God Bless America and the Fireworks start. Goosebumps.

Opportunity? Why does "everyone" around the world want to be in America? At least those who legitimately become citizens, they want what they don't have where they're from, opportunity and/or security for their family...

In my opinion, one shouldn't be proud of things they had no influence in. I suppose the word for that would be something else, like I'm grateful for the "freedom" America offers or I'm grateful my immediate family has integrity or I appreciate being white but I'm proud of the hard work I do or for the fact that I don't steal when given an opportunity, or I'm proud I realize listening to music without headphones on public transportation is affecting those around me negatively...

I'm not so much proud as I am extremely lucky. If you mean the US, and not America in general. Past all our imperial ambitions and gunboat diplomacy. To be fair, deep down inside, all US citizens are some form of Phil Baroni.

WE DA BEST.

Jesus was put on the cross by the liberals in 1776 and died for our gun rights. I will not let the sacrifice of the greatest American go to waste. He died so I can have a desert eagle at Walmart
