Other dominant champions like Jon Jones, Demetrious Johnson and José Aldo were just as impressive as GSP. He never talked trash and didn't have an overly exciting fighting style in his championship reigns. The excitement came from him figuring out puzzles but that's another topic.

Yet Georges st pierre pulled bigger numbers and checks than the rest of his dominant peers, without having to sell fights with trash talk or spectacular finishes. Why is that?

He fought the best competition in all mma history.
He did. Dude went through and passed 3 generations of fighters in his division.

But why was he so marketable? Why was he THE ticket selling, PPV buying machine?

People love greatness, but he was also humble and charismatic.

I know i love humbleness. But historically the casual fan hasn't. The flat out truth seems to be that the "hardcores" find humbleness boring as well. Just look at the attention the Jamahal Hill/Paul Craig fight got in here.

What is GSP's secret?

He had a lot of fans, and he had a lot of haters. Sort of the same reason Rousey was (and McGregor is) such a big draw.

It definitely isn't all fans hoping to see them win.

I think for GSP is that he's a Canadian that fits that stereotypical "polite to a fault" personality. More than humble, like wouldn't hurt a fly outside of beating people up in a cage. The character contrast sets him apart from the regular humble dude types.
