I've had it with Windows. Lost power, SSD drive got damaged and data on it got corrupted, had to install everything all over. I did this from an iso I found online but now I'm required to activate Windows again, which requires me to buy a key. I have no idea what the previous key was, I've had this laptop for a while now. In any case, there is no way I'm paying again for a key. Are there any other alternatives to Windows out there that are similar?

I've had Slackware before but it was a pain in the ass to set up, can't be bothered to read the manual again. I'm looking for something with the simplicity of Windows :/

I thought they put the codes on the laptop with super strong stickers. Its not on the underside? or below the battery or something?

It's not that it got erased with time or someone removed it, it was never on the backside to begin with. No mention of it anywhere and I bought it brand new from BestBuy 2 years ago. Brand is Lenovo and model is Yoga2

I just might try it. Thanks
Go with Mint. It's more set up out of the box for a newb.

I was also going to say Mint.

So it looks like the consensus opinion is . . . Linux Mint.

Go install that shit. Just know that stepping into the magical world of Linux is only Windows-esque on the surface.

Not to mention, starting with Windows 7, that code was not the actual code, but instead was the code you enter on their licensing website to get the code you input into the OS to license it.

Well the easiest to use is Mint, according to everything i read before changing to Linux a few yrs back. Don't know if there is one close to Windows though.
I know that for a few mths after changing i'd get pissed off at times and think, 'it wasn't like this on Windows!' but i gradually got used to it. I'll never change back.

Linux Mint with cinnamon. I have Linux Lite 3.6 64 bit is very nice, too. It's easy for a Windows user to transition.

Yup as others have said Mint would be the best one for you, because its not so complex and its easy to start with. BTW what Windows version do you have?, you can buy keys cheap sometimes on ebay.. if you have Windows 7 or 8 then you can get it for a good cheap price, if its Windows 10 then its a bit more money but still some good offers. Look around..
