What is your favourite dinosaur?

not impressed. It was a fish hunter with a long narrow snout.

Those are jaws made for grabbing slippery fish. Now look at a t-rex jaw.

that was made for tearing thick bloody flesh. If Spinosaurus is Stefan Struve, than T-rex is Mark Hunt.

Never had it but always thought it looked cool.

Just found the toy on youtube!

Velociraptor, mainly because of the Jurassic Park franchise.

How the fuck did these crazy scary monsters end up on Planet Earth???

Stegosaurus or Triceratops.

T.rex is awesome.
Ur mum is a stupid fat kid.

My mum is dead, you Moschops-Head-Shaped clown.

I guess you drive an off-roader in the City, because they are awesome, too.

Tyrannosaurus is awesome. Just not for being the one-above-all-killer some ppl try to make him be as if their life depends on it.

He's not some unstoppable killing machine no. But it was the apex predator in it's environment and it was one of the most dangerous dinosaurs to ever live. Plus, if we go by weight it's still most likely the largest meat eating dinosaur.

I always liked the Ankylosaurus, Thought it was super cool they were covered in armor and spikes and they basically had a mace for a tail. Only its underbelly was unarmored.

I liked me armored dinosaurs as a kid. These, stegs and triceratops

Yes and no. There are many paleonthologists who have strong evidence he was in fact a scavenger and some who disagree. For instance his great smelling and big brainpart for that, the weight, his legbones and musclestructure, T-Rex not being a good/ fast runner, his enourmos bite-force. All signs many other scavengers have in common.

But at the end of the day, he was some bad mofo for sure and one of the biggest/ maybe heaviest (Spino is up there, too) ever and ain't noone to fuck with.

Edit: And he's got the greatest name.

I always liked Pachycephalosaurus. Basically the Mark Coleman of the dinosaur world, head butting shit left and right.

Tyrannosaurus scavenged for sure, but practically every predator scavenges if they get the chance. Lions, tigers etc. do it as well. As far as I know, the only obligate scavengers today are vultures. Besides, there's fossil evidence that T.rex had attacked live prey. So it's pretty much 100% certain that it hunted.

Yeah, it wasn't super fast. But remember that adult T.rex would weigh over 16000 lbs. It was huge. And so was it's prey. Triceratops and Ankylosaurus weren't fast either. And large hadrosaurs were probably fairly slow too. So it didn't need to be fast. It needed to be strong, to kill his potential prey. That's why it was so bulky.

And sure, it's incredible smell made it easy to sniff out an easy snack. But it's pretty much impossible for an animal that size to live only from scavenging. But T.rex also had incredible eyesight, depth perception and intelligence. It hunted 100% certain. And nothing preyed on it. Making it the apex predator of it's environment.

And here many professionals beg to differ and claim the exact opposite; but we will never see one in action and most is speculation from bitemarks, reconstruction, mathematics etc.
I'm pretty sure it snacked some dinosaur here and there given the opportunity;
So have a good one!

Can you give me any recent sources on that? Because the biggest proponent of the obligate scavenger theory, Jack Horner, has back paddled on it. And pretty much every paleontologist I've read about seem to agree that it hunted, and scavenged when it could. Like pretty much every predator today.

Ahh, didn't knew he did but he allways was a bit extreme imo.

I believe I read it in an article from Graeme D. Ruxton and David C. Houston of the University of Glasgow but don't quote me on that ...

Ruxton, Graeme D. and David C. Houston."Could Tyrannosaurus rex Have Been a Scavenger Rather Than a Predator? An Energetics Approach." Proceedings of the Royal Society of London B. Vol. 270, 2003.
