What is the absolute best use of CGI in modern movie making?

DAWN OF THE APES had me going, "That really looks like an ape doing that" on multiple occasions.

And honestly that's the highest compliment you can give a movie.

Or a Bla -- THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED.

I had that when the genuine article said, "Rey? May The Force Be With You" in that mediocre melange of pandering Abrams shat out. It almost saved the entire thing.

Almost.

It's funny to me at how close Spielberg came to using stop motion animation for the Dinosaurs, before he was shown what CGI could do. There are some test reels out there, that are absolutely hilarious. Something tells me, we wouldn't be looking back at JP so fondly if the CGI people never showed up.
Spielberg would ultimatley never put out something that looked shitty imo.

I bet Lucas threw the actual Holy Grail (he bought it straight cash) at his 100 meter movie screen from his Lucasthrone when he saw that they just rehashed shit he already did.

T2 has better CGI than shit I've seen today in 2017. Unreal.
except for that one part when he does that jumping roll off the truck. hahaha..that was like some Alien 3 levels of 90s cgi

Maybe he would have had it not been filled to its pimp-rim with Funyans and Starburst fruit chews.

Youd be surprised what happens, what a billionaire will do when they go into an apoplectic hyperglycemic fit of rage

Gollum does an incredible job with the screen capture

Yeah. But as far as the T-1000 went, it's still amazing to this day. The T-1000 looked infinitely better than the TX from T3, or any of the CGI in the subsequent sequels.

when T1000 morphs through the bars in the asylum......

I'm not sure even now they have had better effects

Indeed. No one ever said "wow those are some shitty fuckin lookin dinosaurs" when they see that movie.

Actually, I watched it on TV by chance a week ago. Those are definitely some shitty fuckin lookin dinosaurs compared to current CGI. Most of them are animatronic though.

Nobody who counts says that. :D

This should be divided between the CGI you're supposed to know about (Transformers) and the subtle CGI you didn't know was there.
If you took somebody from 1985 and showed them.district 9, they would wonder how they made those awesome costumes.

Also, it's not just about "best cgi," it's about what cgi worked the best to make the best movie. But examples of simply solid cgi are fine as well.
