They get pay with what they negotiate...
And McGregor also greatly exaggerates what he makes.Fighters need to stop crying about their pay and do something about it. The reason why Conor McGregor makes Infinite times more money than rest of the roster is because he doesnt just talk the talk but also walks the walk.
50% of the profits.
Agreed. There needs to be a league like NBA/MLB where fighters get a decent cut of the pie but there must also be mandatory title defenses in a reasonable amount of time and some way to make sure that the top fighters don't run off and promote their own superfights.
if they got their fair share I doubt they would want to promote super fights so much
What is the industry standard in golf? Tennis? Soccer? NASCAR? F1?The industry standard is 50% of revenue. This is standard in basically every single sport.
So no more regional champions. That should help with the regional shows.....If you split sanctioning bodies through the Ali Act, the mechanism is that it orders the ACs (technically not them, it would be the body that created the unified rules) to study the sport and then make a commission. You don't need to create 4 sanctioning bodies. Boxing has that many in large part because all 4 bodies predate the Ali Act. So you could hypothetically, if you set aside corruption, greed and incompetence, just create one sanctioning organization for the entire sport of mma. Big if cuz of those three problems, but yeah. The issue in boxing isn't really that sanctioning bodies exist, it's that there are 4 of them and they all have their own peculiar rules.
It's the same deal as a big promoter, if you're a promoter, you can't be a sanctioning body, no matter how small. The sanctioning body would likely create a regional belt.So no more regional champions. That should help with the regional shows.....
And how would ONE or Rizin or any other non-US based promotions be affected?
why would sanctioning bodies create regional belts, and how would sanctioning bodies oversee regional titles? each state has it's own? and can you see how that might negatively impact regional mma? It's the same deal as a big promoter, if you're a promoter, you can't be a sanctioning body, no matter how small. why would most of the elite talent in mma fight stateside at some point? They wouldn't be directly affected. Plenty of pro fights happen around the world that have no connection to the Big 4 boxing sanctioning bodies. Most of the elite alent in mma will fight stateside at some point though. That combined with rankings being stateside would encourage compliance eventually. Although ONE is different since they normally act as their own AC...which I think even you and I agree isn't ideal.
Well sanctioning bodies do it for the sanctioning fee and to help build narratives for those fighters when if they step up to the world level. And no, regional belts are controlled my sanctioning bodies. ACs tend to sork with each other if the effort is put in and no one gets too prissy.why would sanctioning bodies create regional belts, and how would sanctioning bodies oversee regional titles? each state has it's own? and can you see how that might negatively impact regional mma?

you don't see how taking titles away from regional promotions could negatively impact those promotions from putting on shows people want to participate in and / or be a spectator?Well sanctioning bodies do it for the sanctioning fee and to help build narratives for those fighters when if they step up to the world level. Why would most talent talent stateside? For the money and prestige. Im not theory crafting here at some point or anotherz the vast majority of mma talent has or will fight in the U.S. Not to mention the U.S. still has some of the best training camps in the world, which is a modest pull factor.
Regional promoter still exist in boxing, they always have.
It may, but I don't watch this sport for promoters, that would just be odd. The disparity between promoters and fighters in this sport is absurd and heavily slanted toward the former. Promoters should be competing for fighters' services, but that doesn't really happen in mma.you don't see how taking titles away from regional promotions could negatively impact those promotions from putting on shows people want to participate in and / or be a spectator?
No, boxing sanctioning bodies have regional titles and secondary belts, aka a Euro or North American belt. Sanctioning bodies get a cut of the champion's purse, it's relatively insignificant, but they add up in the end since a body has several belts. And the narrative bit is the same as mma :"oh, this guy won this shiny belt in Asia, but now he wants to know if he can take the real world title."you don't see how taking titles away from regional promotions could negatively impact those promotions from putting on shows people want to participate in and / or be a spectator?
i don't know what "sanctioning bodies do it for the sanctioning fee and to help build narratives for those fighters when if they step up to the world level" means. are you creating mini local sanctioning bodies too with their own regional titles?
you're missing the point. mma needs those regional promoters to put on shows so fighters have an avenue to perform. you're glossing straight over the fact that you NEED promoters to put on the shows. not that you watch the sport for promoters. It may, but I don't watch this sport for promoters, that would just be odd. again, fuckin north america is NOT regional in the context of local mma.No, boxing sanctioning bodies have regional titles and secondary belts, aka a Euro or North American belt. Are you arguing that fighters would suddenly be unable to find regional fights when they start out if regional promoters don't have belts? That seems nonsensical. There's a clear economic need and demand for regional or local promotions.you're missing the point. mma needs those regional promoters to put on shows so fighters have an avenue to perform. you're glossing straight over the fact that you NEED promoters to put on the shows. not that you watch the sport for promoters.
What local mma promotions are you concerned about specifically? Cuz I would consider something like Cage Rage a regional promoteragain, fuckin north america is NOT regional in the context of local mma
are you arguing that regional promoters won't lose revenue if they had to change how they promote and could no longer promote that their show included title fights or that fighters wouldn't be as interested in competing if they couldn't win a local belt? Are you arguing that fighters would suddenly be unable to find regional fights when they start out if regional promoters don't have belts? there are lots of local / regional promotions. just look at where every fighter had their first fights. What local mma promotions are you concerned about specifically? Cuz I would consider something like Cage Rage a regional promoter
Enough to pay for training camp, eag, save. Also not too much of s discrepancy from the top guys. Nunes 300k and ronda rousey 3 million. Nunes was underpaid. Case by case basis.I see a lot of threads on fighters are not getting paid fairly, what exactly is your definition for fair fighter pay?
They might, but im skeptical that regional belts is what really sells tickets for them, as opposed to friends and family of fighters. Again, boxing has its own feeder promotions on the local scene, most boxers aren't coming from an Olympic background.are you arguing that regional promoters won't lose revenue if they had to change how they promote and could no longer promote that their show included title fights or that fighters wouldn't be as interested in competing if they couldn't win a local belt?
