I was wondering if someone could tell me what is a normal height and walk around weight for fighters in each of the 10 weight classes. With a lot of fighters considered to big for a weight class I was curious what is considered an average height and walk around weight for each weight class starting with Women's Strawweight and ending with Men's Heavyweight.

why don't you just look up some of your favorite fighters and do it yourself. that's exactly what everyone else is gonna do

start at 5'2 140 lbs

and go up 2" and 10-15 lbs for each weight class.

I always wondered also. Carwin cuts height to different levels each fight so it's hard to determine his real height.

To take my stab at answering this question, I'd like to think the average fighter cuts between 10-15 pounds. so maybe about that amount more than their weight class.

I don't think i can be WAY off, but that's just a stab in the dark from what i've seen

Almost no professional MMA fighters only cut 10 pounds. If is was true, they woudn't be able to fight at a higher weight class even if they wanted to.

Weight is probably their weight class + 10-15%. So 205 would be 225-235 and 125 would be 137-143. The percentage is probably higher at the low weights and lower at the high weights. So I would expect more 145lb FLWs, and more 225 lb LHWs. The % probably tends to creep over time, but aver the IV ban it will likely go down sharply.

For height I'd say a good rule of thumb would be to start at 5'4" and add 2 inches per class till you hit MW then it probably plateaus at around 6'2" - 6'4" as an average for LHW and HW.

That's not really the norm. Shane was one of the greatest height cutters the cage has ever seen.

I think this would be pretty close if looking for averages. Good post.

Thank you, your reply seems to be most helpful.

An interview a few years ago with Rampage & Stephan Bonner they both admitted to getting over 260 a time or two. That is probably an extreme but those guys are were at the highest level.
A WW I train with walks around just under 200, and he is pretty lean.

It all depends on the person. You will get people saying "he is too short for the division" or "he is too tall and skinny for the division" but the truth is it depends on the person and their ability's. Mark hunt is a HW at 5'10" and can hang with anyone, he also got koed by a guy who is 5'7"-5'8" and 185 pounds. DC is about 5'10" too and he is the champ so...He also fought at HW and beat who ever they put in front of him. Matt serra is 5'6" and beat the best WW of all time. Jon jones is taller then most fighters and fights at LHW but some say he is too tall for LHW.

I would imagine walk around weight is a lot more. Anderson had no prob fighting at 205 and wasn't a huge MW. I think an 8 week training camp prob drops 10+% plus another 10+% for the weight cut

unfortunatley there is alot of pressure for fighters to cut more weight then is healthy. its considered normal and the way. although i dont know of one champion in mma who owed it all to "i cut alot of weight for my size advantage."

In my experience out here in Vegas, they really do run the spectrum. The average when it comes to height is always shorter than you'd think until you get to LHW. Mostly cuz guys are packing muscle.

Walk-around weight and pre-cut weight are two completely different things. Nobody cuts weight from his walk-around weight. Fighters all lose weight before cutting weight.
