The guy was training like "crazy" (as he claims) and he gassed. Lets assume that it was due to the larger muscles and weight.... Even at 155 does his wild style can work for 5 rounds? I really doubt it.... He likes to right away go for the kill, I can't imagine a patient Conor... if he doesn't change his strategy I believe the same thing will happen.

Now.. it may be that the number of punches he threw only a Diaz could take it.... If that's the case a good chin, patience and cardio is the way to beat him. Not many fighters have that.

At lightweight he just has to pace himself because the early knockout is less likely. He should be able to adjust to a less aggressive style, because he is actually a pretty good counter puncher.

It wont work for 1 round at LW.

His Chin,Boxing,Cardio is too crappy.

He doesnt have good understanding of boxing/kick boxing to fight people with reach/height/weight same as his.

Not to mention his ground game sucks

Nate Diaz will finish him in 1 round..Cabo diaz took 2 rounds.

Conor's best bet for victory is landing that straight left and utilizing his hands, with his huge reach, to dictate range and abuse that advantage. Why? He has problems with traditional leg kicks and when his hands aren't hurting guys early as he moves forward, he can't dictate the range, nor can he change up his style. He isn't an offensive wrestler. The majority of his kicks are fancy, spinning shit. He doesn't seem to have great takedown defense or a top notch ground game. So, he's at a definite disadvantage from a skill-set perspective.

You could assume he would have some success picking his shots because of his power and striking diversity with his hands, but he's got cardio issues and if guys don't get hurt early, he's going to have to deal with clinch work, guys hitting him more often and people abusing his lack of takedown defense or guard work off of his back. It's going to be tough. His hands will more than likely always be effective, but to what extent?

His best bet is really going back to 145 where he can dictate range and push guys by moving forward and utilizing his reach. If he can't, he's going to be fighting an uphill battle. I've got concerns about his chin as well. He hasn't shown to be durable or able to survive any adversity. He's a great offensive fighter who's exciting to watch, but all this talk is going to end up biting him in the ass eventually.

Actually, he does have a good understanding of the striking game. It's his cardio at LW that is in question here.

No striking bum finishes Jose Aldo like that.

His footwork was unimpressive, and Nate showed that conor has no KO power. Conors BJJ black belt is overrated too.

I don't think McGregor is the hardest puncher in the UFC as some seem to think. His TKO's came from pressure more than power shots ( i think he has 3 pure K.O.'s). most guys at 145 may not be able to sustain that, but someone will, no matter the weight class, and you don't need to be a diaz, just come in with a good game plan that doesn't include letting him keep pressuring. He cuts a lot of weight to fight at 145 and is probably way heavier than most FW at the fight day. 155 wouldn't be exactly the case neither 170, he can do well but is not the same thing.

We could compare him with Ronda. She hasn't fought any full 5 round fights yet and against an elite boxer with similar range she had to chase her. She also don't have that cardio which was visible after the first round with Holly. For me, those are champions who aren't complete. We could see how good cardio has RDA and if he fought Conor he would destroy him.

While I agree that Ronda is not complete. She was a lot dumber than Conor. Conor fought his fight with the best of his abilities. Conor may not be an elite striker but Ronda is actually an elite grappler she have all the credentials. She was pushing forward against a striker (which is not her strength) but for some reason she start believing she was an elite striker as well. Ronda with grappling strategy could had been a different fight.

No he doesn't...he was missing Nate Diaz so much in the first round...Most of his power shots missed.

Being a good boxing counterpuncher (marquez) is different than a fighting boxing style with counterpounching/defensive strategy (mayweather, ward, etc).

I guess it was Diaz who busted his own face up.

I never said his performance was amazing but he does have a good understanding of the striking game.

So Nate landed the same % as him. What does that say about him then?

You don't KO the likes of Aldo and Mendes with poor striking fundamentals.

Conor reminds of Mirko Cro Crop....Cro Crop's excellent stand up, with a great sprawl worked very well in Pride and a ring BUT, we all know what happened when he came to UFC....If someone wants you down, you are going down, the cage assures that..Yes you may have to eat a shot or two but it will happen.

This. I don't understand where this Conor having dynamite in his hands comes from. He has good power at FW, but most of his finishes are due to accuracy and accumulation aside from a few. And most of those were well placed counter shots that don't require as much power to knock out your opponent. Nothing wrong with being a TKO artist as long as he and his trainers realize that is his strength.

More people need to watch this and listen to Nate and stop getting hung up on the first round, you think Conor had it bad with a 10 day Diaz....
