Nope sorry. I remember the days of Frank Mir swinging from his nutsack. Answer the question though. His competition was garbage and when he finally started fighting quality fighters he barely ever won.
This is my recollection as well.

Part of my theory on him is that he fought something ridiculous like 20 times in the first 3 years of his career , it’s got to be hard to stay in that kind of shape 24-7 and it’s got to be even harder to maintain that type of mindset all the time , I’m not suprised he burnt out later in his career

Was crazy when people first started paying attention to weight classes under 155 in MMA, everyone talked about Torres or Faber like they were Fedor, just only for hardcores who watched all of MMA. They came to UFC and started taking losses, so tons of people basically wrote them off. But Torres himself already was fighting for 9 years and 38 fights before he was caught by Bowles. Faber fought for 5 years and 20 fights before losing to Brown.

If you saw their rise, you'd think they'd be a staple to be on the lists for BW Goat or FW Goat, had those 20 or 40 fights been in UFC. It's a shame what time does to fighters that took losses later in their career. They never get the respect they deserve for carving out the divisions.

As far as Torres, he was a victim of the tides turning for what was acceptable in public. The internet and everyone on it made it a pretty edgy place, but by 2011, that's where people started being held accountable for offensive humor online, really it was a change culturally. He made a dumb rape and party van joke, and immediately dropped from UFC as commentator. I know tons of famous people who were cancelled from posting stuff during early internet. I'm just glad I'm a nobody, because if anyone combed through what I said, I'd be cancelled too. But that sort of set the tone for dropping him as basically the BW pioneer and forgotten about. What a shame.
In a twisted sort of way, I'm actually glad people are allowed to use words like retarded and gay again. Not because I personally would ever use them, but because it signals a revolution against censorship and the tyranny it supports and represents. I'm sure you all know the old Voltaire line. It would've been nice for this to have happened a decade earlier but better late than never.

One of the best and most accurate take I have read on Sherdog in years. Cheers!

I just remember Frank Mir slobbering all over him.

He had a pretty close fight with Mighty Mouse which is pretty impressive for what it's worth but besides that he was a can crusher.

The way you say it makes it sound like WEC was B league for sub 155 while UFC was S tier.... sub 155 didnt exist in UFC at the time. It was WEC

You really dont realize that WEC was the premier org for sub 155 at the time?

Yes. I even made a thread about it because some dipshit called it a regional organization if you want to look it up. But do me a favor. Go to Wikipedia and look up his record when he was on his magical 37-1 run. If you actually known more than five of those names you’re lying. His competition was extremely weak.

I bet Miguel really, really regrets that tweet. Forever known as "...that rape van guy."

Mizugaki, Maeda, Bieber, Tapia.

You seem to be saying WEC 135 was weak when Torres was on top but those 4 I named were solid as fuck. The top of the division and Torres made them look easy. WEC had the best BWs

Sure 33 of those wins were vs weak comp but when he faced the top of the top he was still levels above so it proved that he was as legit as 37-1 sounds.

And as others have stated he beat MM.

Given Cruz weak punching and style a fight with Torress would've been awesome

This guy and a couple of other fighters from this era’s name will just out of nowhere pop up in my head at the most random of times. “Anhel Torres” Just like how the commentators used to pronounce it. I actually forgot he had that brief stint in the UFC.

Getting cut for the rape van joke killed his spirit
Yeah he never recovered from that horrible van accident.
Ngl, I didn’t get it then and I don’t get it now.

Thanks for your concession. And no he didn’t beat Mighty Mouse lmao. Throwing up no chance submissions and flailing around with punches off your back because you have no clue how to get up doesn’t win you a fight.

The fact he was a -600 favorite against Brian Bowles was because of people like you which I thank you for because it won me a fuck ton of money.

That is an oft forgotten "fight we never got" which would have been stunning.

Thanks for your concession.
You act as if 135 at the time was the shark tank it is now. It wasn't. There were what, 15 BW males in WEC? Yea the guy that fought 40 times before the weightclass was even "UFC worthy" is going to have a ton of regional guys on there.

Miguel isn't some hidden GOAT, no one in the thread claimed he's the secret best 135er ever.
But he played a key role for his weight class and the WEC as a whole by being one of the more exciting guys to watch at the time. He still held a belt and defended it, still bled for our enjoyment.
There's no need to get autistic about semantics, or how well wins on the Indiana regionals have aged two decades later.

I am not here to question if Torres was overrated or not, because he was always exciting.

But is going to a close decision with part time Bantamweight Mighty Mouse in his 8th fight really a huge deal? Also, didn't Mighty Mouse break part of his leg in the second round?

Whiny, "Im offended", SJWs happened to him x Dana's flaky bs.
