What happened to Jon Jones' punching power?

He's 6'4, 84.5" reach, and one of the strongest and most explosive guys in the division's history. So why does he have no punching power?
Wrong tactics/strategy and not using power punching techniques/combinations. A point fighting strategy will not have the same combinations/tactics from a TKO/KO strategy. One strategy will constantly reset to avoid danger and just want to touch and go, the other will stay and plant their feet during certain exchanges or when they are hurt and go for more follow up power shots for more damage. Different strategies when it comes to point fighting and going for finishes in striking. Point fighting is playing it safe, going for finishes adds more risks, but it also increases your chances of getting a TKO/KO.

I just looked at his record and noticed something interesting about the most pillow fisted fighter in UFC LHW history! His first 5 fights, he won 4 of them by KNOCKOUT from punches, including several 1 punch KOs.

Edit: Only 1 of the KOs/ TKOs was from punches. I stand corrected.

This is interesting because we've seen several guys go to Jacksons and then become point fighters. Or start fighting much more "static" and no longer being "dynamic".

Was it just weaker competition? Did he lose it from training at Jacksons? Where did his 1 punch KO power go?

he was never a power striker. he was a wrestling point fighter.

sitting on your punches is high risk-high reward endeavor, it also zaps your power bar rather quickly...

Jon knows for damn near certain he can pick and pop at range, stay out of the danger zone, and put in a workmanlike 5 rounds. At the conclusion he’s walking away with his belt and consciousness.

Did he ever really knock somebody out? And I mean, out. Not just a TKO/referee stoppage. Usually he just stuns them, and then follows up with more strikes, until the referee halts it. But he has never been a guy to put anybody to sleep, except by chokeholds.

He never had punching power to fall in love with, he probably wouldn't have done as good if he had more power, he more then likely would have fell in love with it and not developed as much

DC got slept by punches, but it was on the ground and he was already rocked to shit.

Jones may not one-punch KO his opponents, but he has hurt a lot of tough guys with his striking: machida, shogun, DC.

No wonder your brother, Superkick, stopped making threads after the second DC fight.

It's his mix of kicks, elbows, reach, versatility, wrestling and drugs which got him this far.

He never had a punching KO power. Simple as that.
