What happened to Jon Jones' punching power?

His fists may be pillow but he has rocked fighters with his hands and leg kicks. He also has elbows that broke a fighters orbital bone. not bad for a pillow fisted fighter.

PS: The cornballs who post on sherdog is ridiculous and corny threads, we expected better. I’m guessing the thread starter was bored or saw a Jon Jones poster and got insecure and came on here to post garbage but it really says more about his insecurity.
Yeah, it's the same with GSP. GSP and Jones are 2 of the most strong and explosive guys in their weight class' history. And people seriously believe they don't have punching power.

I think they do. I think that Jacksons is just really lacking on punching technique. They're arm punchers.

GSP in particular -- early in his career he was a very loose and dynamic striker! Then he later turned into the plodding, stuck in the mud super tense guy with arm punches and a good jab.

I don't know that he's pillow fisted. I think he doesn't sit down on his punches because he doesn't want to over commit and get countered. He's a big boy. I'm sure he'd have more ko's with punches if he really focused on it.

I think he can finish people with his punches. I just don't think he trains his striking for KO/TKO. I think he has the power to do it seeing how fighters respond to getting hit clean by him. Some adjustments in strategy/tactics/technique he can KO/TKO with strikes more often.

He dropped Bisping with a left hook that Freddy Roach told him to do because he saw an opening in Bisping's striking. GSP always had the power to KO/TKO people, just needed the right trainer that can bring that out of him.

I just looked at his record and noticed something interesting about the most pillow fisted fighter in UFC LHW history! His first 5 fights, he won 4 of them by KNOCKOUT from punches, including several 1 punch KOs.

Edit: Only 1 of the KOs/ TKOs was from punches. I stand corrected.

This is interesting because we've seen several guys go to Jacksons and then become point fighters. Or start fighting much more "static" and no longer being "dynamic".

Was it just weaker competition? Did he lose it from training at Jacksons? Where did his 1 punch KO power go?

jacksons is the perfect place to go for aging fighters or fighters who want long careers it seems.
they have helped arlovski and overeem change up their styles to be able to compete longer. arlovski just took out new hw hype.

jon was finishing good competition early on. finished dc and the mauler back to back just a few years ago.
hes really only looked a little off in a few fights.
i think jon could have finished all fights osp forward but was to focused on maintaining his position to be the longest raining champion. i think we see a different jon in a hw fight and he finished his fight fight in that weight class.
i'm also pretty confident jake paul would smoke jon.

He's an 93+ kg man, if he fighs a bum with no difense and punches him in face boy is going to sleep.

Consecutive titles fights only get harder and harder...

That's why only the greatest fighters can rack'em up.

Gsp had about a 90-95% finish rate before going to Jackson and benifiting. From his masterful gameplanning

He never had any punching power. Wym?

Out of all the champions he has the worst boxing, weakest hands P4P. Credit to him for having a HOF career with such shitty punches

He's 6'4, 84.5" reach, and one of the strongest and most explosive guys in the division's history. So why does he have no punching power?

Jones isn't very explosive apart from his spinning elbow

His punches seem quite slow and weak. he's very crafty though and uses such a wide variety of techniques

He got bored AF once he realized anyone with < 80" reach can't really get inside on him without getting eye-poked or kicked. He has regressed both physically and technically to a massive extent from the first DC fight to the Santos fight. Can't shake the feeling he got really lucky that he never faced Rumble.

Most explosive? WTF, he is one of the least explosive. Jones excels in his technique, usuing leverage, fight iq, and a huge variety in his attacks. He is always keeping his opponents guessing. But a powerfu striker he is not.
