I just looked at his record and noticed something interesting about the most pillow fisted fighter in UFC LHW history! His first 5 fights, he won 4 of them by KNOCKOUT from punches, including several 1 punch KOs.

Edit: Only 1 of the KOs/ TKOs was from punches. I stand corrected.

This is interesting because we've seen several guys go to Jacksons and then become point fighters. Or start fighting much more "static" and no longer being "dynamic".

Was it just weaker competition? Did he lose it from training at Jacksons? Where did his 1 punch KO power go?

Hmmm and these fights were in smaller organizations where they weren’t tested as much?? Hmmmmmmmm....

Knocking out two cans does not mean Jones ever had knockout power, and TKO's from "punches" could just as easily be from ground-and-pound.

Jones has never had a lot of power behind his punches, and his boxing has always been the biggest hole in his game.

One of them was a suplex that knocked the wind out of the guy, not a punch, another one the guy got hurt to the body and turned his back like Overeem/Kharitonov, and another(Carlos Eduardo) was the guy throwing a huge punch himself and ran head first into Jon throwing a straight punch. Really only one of them had anything to do with throwing a hard punch and KOing someone.

His punching power hasn't really been one of his strengths. Could be technique or the strategy they train. Point fighting strategies don't focus on punching power or trying to finish fights by TKO/KO - it's about scoring and resetting. TKO/KOs can still happen, but it's not a part of the strategy or the training.

That's why there are trainers known for a point fighting style, and others known for an aggressive pressure finish style. It's the same for mma/muaythai/boxing. Like the saying goes, "You fight the way you train".

Easy examples of this is to find boxing training from KO artists, and then look at the training from fighters that win decisions. You will see the training is very different.

He never had great punching power or boxing skills for that matter.
The problem is that he is serviceable in those 2 things and elite everywhere else.

Plus he's fucking huge and physically gifted.

His fists may be pillow but he has rocked fighters with his hands and leg kicks. He also has elbows that broke a fighters orbital bone. not bad for a pillow fisted fighter.

PS: The cornballs who post on sherdog is outrageous, we expected better from some of you socially awkward shit stains. I’m guessing the thread starter was bored or saw a Jon Jones poster and got insecure, and came on here to post cuckory but it really says more about his insecurity.

Lyoto got knocked down by 1 punch from the GOAT

he can do it all <JonesLaugh>
To be fair, Jon may have been able to TKO Machida from that exchange but Lyoto ran headlong into it. Even DC ducked into the kick. Jon can TKO but he needs help from his opponents.
