Elections What does threat to democracy mean?

When folks on the left talk about Republicans being a "threat to democracy," what does that mean exactly? It seems like when people vote for someone other than a Democrat, it's a "threat to democracy." But when people vote for their preferred candidate in fair elections, isn't that democracy? Kamala being selected vs. elected as the Dem nominee is the only recent example of an undemocratic process that I can see.
It‘s one of these things where the media managed to brainwash half the population by making the side they don‘t like unfrequentable. But this shit is not really working in Europe anymore and stopped working in the USA.

republicans historically have actively looked to gerrymander districts and suppress voters. trump has also been threatening to prosecute/exile the press, as well as political enemies. all of those things threaten a free democracy.

btw, democrats are a threat as well, just not in the same way.
You're saying democrats don't take part in gerrymandering and are all about the free speech?

Democracy doesn't really matter or work when 5 or 6 families own 90% of the country's wealth, and that's more or less where the US finds itself right now.

There's nothing undemocratic about a party choosing their candidate without running a Primary. Most political parties in the US don't. The ones that do, do so because its in their best interest to nominate the most popular candidate.

And the only recent example that you can see? You should try seeing this, instead of pretending it never happened.

It may have a smidgen to do with why people feel Trump is a threat to democracy. It's not because of made up bullshit or feelings—it's because he's proven himself to be a threat to democracy. And it ain't just the Democrats saying it. It's Trump's own cabinet and Vice President.
Now tell me about "fake electors" in 2016 when they were on Dems side, libtard.

In the 2016 United States presidential election, ten members of the Electoral College voted or attempted to vote for a candidate different from the ones to whom they were pledged.[1] Three of these votes were invalidated under the faithless electorlaws of their respective states, and the elector either subsequently voted for the pledged candidate or was replaced by someone who did.[2][3][4] Although there had been a combined total of 155 instances of individual electors voting faithlessly prior to 2016 in over two centuries of previous US presidential elections, 2016 was the first election in over a hundred years in which multiple electors worked to alter the result of the election.[1]

Although interesting, this doesn’t seem to have been a democrat tactic, but more so the electors themselves rejecting their own nominees…?

democrats are definitely the free speech party but they are absolutely guilty of gerrymandering. just less than republicans

We've gone over this. They're absolutely not the free speech party after attempting to stymie free speech on covid as well as the Hunter Biden laptop story.

Democrats have literally never been the free speech party in my whole life, going back to Tipper and Al Gore trying to ban rock music to today with them censoring speech on social media.

Democracy comes in all shapes and sizes and you have high quality ones and low quality ones.

Passing legislature like Gerrymandering, killing a free press, or stacking a judiciary for biased rulings are examples of measures that can erode the quality of a democracy while people still go to the ballot box.

social media companies are all privately run & can't be regulated by the state outside of people posting illicit material. leftists are pushing the population to use their free speech to put pressure on these private corporations when they don't get what they want. that is frankly capitalism.

Precisely, it's something that is written as a right in the constitution, making the "fake electors 'plot'" a moot fucking point that only libshit propagandists try to push. Faithless electors can be found throughout the history of the US.

Only a deluded fool could say this with a straight face about the party that fires people for refusing to play pretend with pronouns. You're gonna have a rough 4 years, buddy.

No, it isn't leftists pushing it and companies tdoing it out of the goodness of their hearts towards leftist mindrot, it's the literal state. There are emails between the Biden Admin and old twitter where they specifically pointed out posts to take down and accounts to ban. You are either heavily propagandized, or a propagandist yourself, as there is no other explanation as to how you could see the world as literally fucking upside down.

The American Democrat party is going to have to seriously reinvent itself now. After such a shockingly bad defeat to a detestable man, its clear the country does not buy their bullshit anymore. Its gonna be interesting to see how they go about this actually. It would be great if they went down an actual path to kick the Republicans out, and by that I mean genuinely addressing people's concerns and not just pandering to weird minority groups and causing racial division. A level headed Dem would have destroyed Trump.

Yea, I'm not a regular of the WR, just pop in here during big news stories, but every time I do, it seems there's some real stupid motherfuckers posting things they are entirely wrong about. Leftists being the party of freedom of speech hasn't been true since 2008 at the latest.
