People like to watch titleshots for a reason: the belt means something which is directly related to being one of the very best. So, we want our favorite fighters to get that symbol. However people are missing that the less we make it about skill and more about popularity, the belt loses it's value.
Yeah, most of us get that it's a business AND a sport, so it's not just about the rankings, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have limits to that. What's your thoughts ?
I don't want to make this just about Bisping vs Hendo, although they're certainly a great example of that, there are certainly more to come. But here I go: First, Bisping gets the ts to save the card, that is, for business reasons. He wins... but remember that mmamath doesnt work, so he doesn't automatically becomes superior to the guys Luke beat. Then Hendo... I'm still amazed about the amount of support he's getting to leapfrog a dozen after looking mediocre old and trtless.
Think about it, if titleshots can get scheduled without any current skill merit all of the time, that means the then current title holder does not translate as a best or maybe not even among the best in the category, since that would be based on mmamath. So the belt holder is a paper champion, because it translates so little skill wise, as he leapfrogged a dozen.
