Comes down to parenting. Bottom line. I did grew up in that environment, but me and a small group had parents that kept us on the right path. Doesn't mean we didn't make bad choices sometimes, but not ones that would end our lives or put us in jail.

It's a toxic way of saying you're telling your friend they're wrong about something.

If you really care about a person you try to get them to see the error of your ways preferably in private. This culture really is just instigating conflict under the the guise of conflict resolution. Growing up in NYC there was a large "instigator" culture where people loved watching drama and went about trying to manufacture it under the pretext of being helpful. This sort of reminds me of that.

If you don't look like a gang member, chances are a gang member will never interact with you. I used to walk by groups of them all the time and the only times they ever spoke to me was when they were trying to sell me something out of their trunk.

This dude who used to live in my building was in a gang and I had to jump his car for him a few times and he was super polite. Always offered me weed and money.

I'm not saying all of them are nice. But they usually don't pay much mind to anyone who isn't a rival gang member.
