What do you wish your city had that it doesn't?

chinese restaurant options from richmond and vancover

Tacoma, WA

Better breweries like Seattle and Portland.

People always have this rosy, ignorant view of gentrification, oh property values go up and everyone lives happily ever after
Its not a good thing when families are forced from their communities
Its not a good thing when I see old people that went to school with my grandparents have to find a new place to call home because the cost of living has risen to astronomical rates
When the price of groceries rises 150% in a year, thats not a good thing
When all the restaurants and businesses you've went to your whole life are forced out and replaced by fucking Starbucks on every block, thats not a good thing
When all your neighbors that you've known for decades are gone, replaced by 20-something techie douchebag hipsters, thats not a good thing
Fuck gentrification
to be honest, most so called mom and pop stores can not compete with bigger companies on price or on selection of goods. Sure they may stock the occasional novel item, but by and large big companies have them beat in both price and general selection. Which to me are far more important. No one is forced from those communities. No one came to them with a gun in their hands saying move to a shittier place or we will fucking kill you. So stop your reactionary over reacting.

The prices went up because people moved in who got paid better, made more money and had better careers. Businesses follow the money, so if you don't want your neighborhood to grow an improve then don't allow people to move into it who have good jobs. If you are not willing to do that, then you are not serious on gentrification. There is not one legislative thing you can do to prevent it or the community from improving its standards.

Your tilting at windmills, screaming at clouds like some old codger. Shit improves weather you like it or not.

Dude, no offense, but you were being a condescending prick the whole time when you didn't even know what the fuck you were talking about. Everybody else in this thread thought the same thing too. You didn't get a single like, meanwhile most of the posts refuting you got multiple likes. When everyone else is against you, that's usually a clear sign that YOU are the problem. But no hard feelings, let's move on... :)
Yet you avoided my content.. Why is improving the neighborhood bad? Also, at no point was I condescending so get your facts straight. Also who gives a single fuck about likes? Stupid, and wrong posts get likes on these boards all the time. Also, everybody else? I had like 8 total people out of a few hundred even reply or mention me so that is literally not everyone else.

1) the vast majority of fast food spots (like we don't have a Wendy's, cmon son)
2) single women that have a job
3) grass

Cowabunga Bay Waterpark is in Las Vegas btw.

Vegas doesn't have Whataburger or Waffle House.

30 minutes ago you didnt know what gentrification was, now youre trying to school me
Thats adorable

More sexy Latinas , and a "medium" size music venue. It's not too bad because Grand Rapids, Flint and Detroit are 60-90 minutes away. You figure though that one would do well with Michigan State nearby. All we have are dive bars though.

Not trying to school you. Just giving my opinion on why I prefer big, national stores to soo called mom and pops. I prefer having cost and convenience vs some small store that has less of the things I want.

LOL. First you were inadvertently advocating for white flight, now you're spewing some BS about gentrification, which is directly contradictory. You ignorantly spewed off when you didn't know what you were talking about and derailed the conversation. Do us all a favor and just gracefully bow out.

What bs about gentrification am I saying that is contradictory? The guy I am talking to mentioned specific things related to it and responded to those things with my opinion. Not you or him or anyone else has provided any sort of compelling evidence that Gentrification is a bad thing. As I have seen it defined here I only see it as improvement.

Lastly, how can you expect me to "bow out" when you are still attacking me? Im not going to just stop while you two keep attacking.

Edit to add. Been reading up on Gentrification and find it ironic and hilarious that the people claiming to support the middle class call them "middle class invaders" when they move in to "working class" areas. It's funny, your side claims to support and love the middle class, yet show the blatant hypocrisy of calling them invaders when they move into areas.

In St Petersburg.. I would say more of highways to get around the city
In Moscow.. I am unsure, maybe easier access to get in the city from outside. We have big bridges and highways, but it can take an hour just to get in the city.

Oh, Jesus... I'm not even taking a side on the issues, I'm just calling out your bullshit. First, you were too dumb to realize what gentrification was and injected race into the conversation by conflating it with white flight, which you were advocating for. Then when you were corrected, you started blindly advocating for gentrification instead, which is about the exact opposite of what you were first advocating for. Look I've had enough of this nonsense, do me a favor and not even quote this post. K, thanks, bye.
