What do you guys do to prepare for driving in snow besides putting on Winter tires?

I live where it has gotten to -40 in the winter and has a lot of black ice because it is very sunny. I got my wife snow tires as she drives with the kid and has never been as comfortable driving in the snow. I’ve had all seasons for years and feel fine in the snow. I mai my just notice the ice on the road while driving, don’t drive parallel to anybody when more than one lane, and rip around somebody who looks like they are terrified, have shit tires, or are swerving.

Every year the first few weeks of snow fall I will be driving past fiery car wrecks or cars upside down in ditches, bc people don’t change their driving habits, still have their racing slicks on, or don’t realize there is black ice on their road.

Back when I lived in Vancouver, an inch of snow would shut down the entire city.

I never drive in the snow. The only time I would ever do that is to drive up to Tahoe. And I’m not doing that in my rear wheel drive car.

You dont even change to winter tires in the snow? And you can drink and drive? Nice, fuck that other guy and his entire family

Notta. Just take it slow and cautious

I just drive no prep needed. Born and raised in the Chicagoland area. Is normal.

I drive a few minutes over to another neighbourhood with nice empty streets and practice Scandi flicks and other fun ways of sliding the car sideways.

Besides putting winter tires. (Which I know some of you don't)

What I do is when there is the first good amount of snow during winter, I go to empty parking lot and drive more aggressively there and practice my braking.

Just get a feel of the snow. It works for me, i feel more confident after doing that.
Best thing most people in my area could do is stay the hell off the road or slow down. People really do confuse their arrogance/entitlement and reality. Just saw a wreck 10 minutes ago in a spot where no one should be rushing.

Nothing really. If you have an AWD or 4X4 truck or SUV you should be fine. Just don't drive too fast. The most dangerous thing about driving in bad weather are other drivers.

Also if there's major ice on the road just stay the hell off it. Nothing will save you in those conditions. Not tires, nor studs or chains.

I think that this is an excellent and necessary preparation

When i lived in the midwest snow country, I eventually developed a winter snow plan of driving to Florida.

I guess on a serious note, I'm a cautious driver by nature, so not much change needed with my driving on snow and ice. I would always be concerned with skidding off the road and being stuck. So I'd put blankets, extra wool hat and snack foods in the car during the cold bleak frozen winters. With a heavy SUV I used to drive I'd put snow tires on it.
