What Can Charles Olivera Adjust to Beat Islam?

Islam will wreck him 100%
OK 90%, because nothing is guaranteed, but I'm confident Islam will ragdoll him

Charles is lucky it isn't khabib, or he really would have no path to victory bar a freak injury. He at least has a chance of finding Islam's chin, but I wouldn't bet on it
 
Reality is he just had a bizarre performance.

He’s perfectly capable of beating Islam as is.

One thing Volk did really well against Islam was not get comfortable on the bottom. Especially since to my knowledge there aren’t many submissions from half guard/the submissions are difficult to perform.

I didnt rewatch it yet, but my first impresion vs Benny is that he fully embraced bottom position, first one he kinda did it, then again was scrumble and again he went to guard, i tought wtf is he trying to prove?
So yes I fear he has this program in him , clinch -knee if to close bottom guard.

All the possible title contenders should just say no to Abu Dhabi.
I hope Dana was correct in the post fight presser, that Islam has to get medical cleared. And the next title fight will be december or january somewhere else.
 
Islam starches him again. Even charles said himself that he would not change a thing. So knowing that there is nothing that could change my mind.
 
It's a fight. IF Mackachev fights more than once every 18 months and doesnt retire after 4 title defenses, we could see an upset.

- Dominate the striking exchanges (easier said than done obv but Charles can do this if he mixes his kicks in and works on his defence)

Why would he want to clinch along the fence. He needs to avoid it at costs
 
He needs to get Islams respect early but outside of a wild strike that opens himself up to danger I don't see how he does it.

Islam is a horrible match up.
 
He has to catch him early. He's not going to accomplish anything on the ground, and can't prevent Islam from taking it there. His only shot would be to clip Islam before he works his wrestling.

You know it's crazy, I was about to blast you for saying that but thinking about it more; islam has waaaay better striking than you would think. Especially his defense is really good, that volk fight opened my eyes. He was beating volk on the feet which is crazy. I don't necessarily think islam is better at striking than charles but he's very good defensively and is pretty good counter puncher plus the wrestling threat is there as well. Charles is just to reckless for my taste, if we are talking offense only he's as good as anyone but his fight iq and defense are horrible at times.

That's part of what makes Oliveira who he is and helped him become champion. You can't change the core of a fighter's style but he can make small adjustments like fighting Islam at range instead of constantly moving forward and working on his striking defense.
 
His defense but is too late for that, he is never fixing it at this stage, so he needs to limit the jumping shit.

Yes more correct to say that as it is likely unavoidable he will be in the clinch he needs to have it take place along the cage so he can look for the trips and make it dirty in there with knees and elbows.
 
Charles showed up AWFUL in his first Islam fight. Islam was SOLID that nite

will it always be like that? I dont think so

In yesterday fight, Charles looked like a STRIKER x Beneil. Striking O and D, avoiding hits, setting traps, head movement. Impressive, really.

If Charles shows up like that in the rematch, its a whole different fight. Still a bad matchup for grappling/sloppy striker Olives, but if this killer version of Charles is out there again, I honestly think he will finish Islam
 
Not throw a jumping knee with his hands down from a meter away.
It was close until this mistake.
 
Tone down some of the aggression and use his striking to keep Islam at a distance and tire him out
