I read that LES BINKS died a few days ago.
I remember seeing a review somewhere saying 'Stained Class' was the first heavy metal album. Obviously people aren't gonna line up behind that but in a way it feels right - 'stereotypical' metal was loud, fast, aggressive music, played by guys wearing leather and spikes, so it kind of is the first album that ticks all those boxes, with the double-bass speedy drums obviously leading the way.
I also read several 'why did Judas Priest get rid of Les Binks?!' convos a while back, supposedly the drum style was a bit controversial at the time and some people called his playing 'disco metal' (lol). But I always liked the style of disco drums (and bass!) plus I wasn't alive in the 70s to have any of that era's musical tribalism anyway. Disco Metal FTW
